But I have to say that yesterday I was on the receiving end of some very good service which was made more surprising, given the fact it was actually hidden away in one of the most deprived blue collar areas here in North Wales....a fact that made me shut my ever-so-snobby mouth with a crocodile snap!
Rhyl, a town way past it's best |
I was very surprised
The woman on the tills was polite, friendly and courteous.
She took the time to find out if the laminater came with plastic sheets, and she passed the time of day with me with a semi amusing story of how she likes to chat to the customers when it was quiet
The smiling manager who retrieved my items from the "back" called me "sir" when he gave me my bag
and as I left the girl manning the discount jewelry counter gave me another smile and a "goodbye"
Message to self.......
"Eat a small slice of humble pie"
ps Rhyl is still a sh*t hole!
After France, I still find it delightful and unusual when shop staff take time to help me find what
ReplyDeleteI want...or direct me to a shop which might stock it.
Makes a change from the doors clanging shut at 11.50 so that the staff can close the tills in time for lunch.
I'm very proud of you. m.
ReplyDeleteShame about Rhyl. My first sight of the sea was at Rhyl, in the sixties.
ReplyDeleteIt was always a Grand Day Out on the train, for us whey-faced nippers from The Potteries.
A cut above Blackpool of course :-)
I would have never believed this old run down building was part of Rhyl. The Rhyl I knew was the choice of many for a day at the seaside, a little fishing from the pier, a walk through the shops while eating a cup of cockles smothered in vinegar.
ReplyDeleteAt least you were surprised that manners and good customer service, are alive and well.

ReplyDeleterhyl is one of the most deprived and run down areas in the UK

Good and pleasant service is hard to find so when you do find it, celebrate it.
ReplyDeletewould love to have a name anonymous!
ReplyDeleteI was sad to read that Rhyl is so run down. I spent several happy holidays there when I was a child up to a teenager and then taking my own daughter there when she was small.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame.
Run down towns are sad, but I'm glad to hear that some people still have manners and share them. :)
ReplyDeleteYou may feel like you should eat humble pie, but isn't it a nice reason! (If you are going to have to eat humble pie, it ought to be for a good reason)! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHumble pie aside, how nice for you to have the "pick-me-up" of dealing with pleasant folks. It always makes my day to unexpectedly have fun in a store!
Lesson - be nice to people and they will be nice to you...generally. And so long as they are not wearing leashes wear!!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking for customer service people across the globe, there ARE some of us good ones still out there! You may have to look a bit harder, but there is great service when you least expect it. People who take pride in the smiles of happy customers.
ReplyDeleteSounds cheesy, but we exist ;)
My mum says she is worried that Llandudno centre will end up like Rhyl, lots of shops closed and charity and cheap shops.
ReplyDeleteSue
I was going to suggest you move to Brighton.... but what would you do with the menagerie?
ReplyDeleteJohn, I'm alice, in Orkney now, but from Stoke originally :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree about Rhyl - used to be running with junkies too at one time. Funny you had good service in a
ReplyDeleteArgos because (absolutely true this) someone once cloned my credit card and my bank phoned me to ask had I recently tried to purchase two grands worth of cameras at Argos in Rhyl! We thought not, they said, in response to my incredulity.
On the other side of the coin: In Scottsdale, Arizona I've gone into Dillard's(upscale store) and seen the sales girls at the cosmetics counter stand and chit-chat with one another and totally ignore customers.
ReplyDeleteI have to add that both Nieman Marcus and Nordstroms in the same shopping center treat their customers like royalty.
