Giselle

The rather weedy looking Leonid Sarafanov as Albrecht and the stunning Natalia Osipova in the title role
Giselle is not a ballet that requires a gimmick, and certainly not if the gimmick is a filmed 3D performance of a notable Marlinksy Theatre production.
But after a shaky start  where the action seems all a little blurred (the first act is somewhat shaky anyway with it's slightly pantomime feel), the moonlit action where the Corps de ballet acting as the ghostly Wilis filter back and forth across the stage with the precision of a military exercise is quite stunning to watch under the spotlight of the extra dimension .
I wouldn't rush to do the whole glasses thing again..( at £15 a ticket, it is all a little excessive) but it was an interesting experience.
At least we got to keep the 3D glasses
I have been rostered to work tomorrow ( even though I have a work profile which states "no weekdays!")
Thank goodness for good neighbours who will be baby sitting the dogs for us.
I had a nice phone call from Thomas' owner too,who informed me that he had been returned twice before by different owners.....his athletic ability to scale great heights was obviously NOT a new skill...

hey ho

  1. Just out of interest, how does Thomas' owner keep him in?

  2. Sounds like he'd do best around the craggy coast, living on the cliffs.
You'd still have to leave his daily ration of crisps and though.
They must be short-handed at work to call you in, good job you have a willing neighbour to help out.

  3. 3-D ballet..what will they think of next?! Speaking of reunaway dogs...Hootie has done 2 escapes (right throught the front door) in the past 3 days. The latest as I headed out the door to church this morning. Sheesh. That little poop is quick, and he does NOT listen, nor is he temped with treats. Only a kind neighbor collaring him kept me from being a half hour late for church. I adore Hootie, but he is the epitome of the terrier persona!! Will try to catch up here tomorrow. Have a good weekend.xx

  5. The best version of Giselle I ever saw was set in a Concentration Camp. Truly extraordinary and deeply moving - created by the great Christopher Gable of course.

  6. Not sure about the 3D ballet idea. Ive got tickets to see Matthew Bournes Cinderella at the Lyceum in July and I'm way giddy about it. Have you time for a quick drink when you come up to Sheffield? In a previuous life, someone once gave me a goat - I hated him and he hated me. We had to tether it as he always escaped.

  7. My grandmother had a guard goat that was tethered. I never personally met the goat but I have heard numerous stories about how notorious his was. My brother said he was a pain in the butt...literally.

  10. Whoo! Cool glasses! Hee hee. I've never heard of 3D ballet (except watching it live) but we don't get out much around here! Tee hee.

So...Thomas was notorious, was he? Oh dear. Well, we're not all leapers, in fact, I can't jump high at all because I'm a little bottom heavy! My legs are kind of short from my Pygmy mama and my body is all Boer, which is nice and hefty. The LaMancha boys don't jump as much as they CLIMB.

I still think somewhere out there is your little goat herd. They'll find you! xoxoxoxo
