Striking When The Iron Is Hot

My plan to document the older villagers' memories on my new blog "Trelawnyd: Voices of the Past"  sort of got off the ground this morning. As I lazily gazed into the new neat Graveyard , I was reminded of that old phrase The road to hell is paved with good intentions ,so galvanised by my London break and the lovely spring morning, I went knocking on doors.
An hour later and two dozen eggs lighter I had booked 5 interviews for next week, agreed two more in the pipeline and had arranged for a request for more volunteers to be read out at the next "friendship group meeting" at the memorial Hall.
All I need now is batteries for a little tape recorder, a blank pad of paper and a lot of patience!

The rest of the morning I have been on catch up. Chris has looked after the animals very well, and all of them were present, healthy and accounted for on muster this morning.

The only casualty however was my polytunnel, which was ripped from its moorings on Thursday morning by gale force winds. I found what was left of it in the lane and have only just had to opportunity to repair it.
These are the trials and tribulations of an allotment holder!
Mind you I haven't killed myself with hard work today!
Couldn't quite resist a lie down with a bulldog "pillow"

a BIT SCARY: the same expression!

  9. You definitely sound more refreshed, that trip did wonders!

I love the idea of your talking with the oldies and getting their take on the past - and maybe the present.

You and Constance look quite content!

Bravo to Chris, not to have lost any of the birds!

  11. Love the pictures with you and your dog. :D

I miss having an animal around. Besides my husband that is. He won't have a pet in the house, because in his previous marriage, his wife went crazy with the procurement of animals. Take what you have animal-wise OUTdoors John....and picture it in a tiny mobile home. I don't blame him really. On not having animals AND getting himself a new wife.

Do you know, before I moved here to the North Carolina countryside, I had never heard the crow of a rooster. I thought they only did that in cartoons. I was so surprised to hear that they really sound like that lol! I was SUCH a city-girl ;)

  12. The iron's cooling off rapidly if the first photo is anything to go by. As for your kissable face, they say that dogs look like their owners - or vice versa. A quick transformation for both of you. Next thing, you'll be slobbering too.

  13. Good luck with the interviews John!

Constance does indeed make a good pillow, but with her noises I don't know how much rest you'll get using her! :-))

  21. No rest for the farm life John! I went in to my vet yesterday for some medication for my old dog, and I was lamblasted at the front desk by the friendliest english bulldog. She was a true love bug and made me think of you immediately. So I hope you felt my warm wishes for you all the way across the oceans yesterday!

  22. Just caught up with your doings with Nuala, sounded like a grand time and well spent.

I texted my British daughter-in-law and learned what "poof" means in the UK... learn something new every day!!! I wish I could make you appear magically in Anchorage to have a cocktail with me at the Crows Nest!! Have a lovely Sunday!

I admit I didn't know quite what to think when I read the title of this post and saw the first photo. I thought perhaps you were being satirical and was very relieved to learn that none of the elders died unexpectedly.
You really love that bulldog don't you? :-)
