Just Not Being Arsed

Tonight we had planned to drive to Llandudno to see the Colin Firth move The Kings Speech.
The weather has gotten just a little colder and as the dogs pilled up on the couch we lit the fire and decided to stay in yet again with a dvd like two old ladies.
Like most couples we just cannot agree on a film to watch for an evening in.
If Chris had his way, I could be subjected to anything from Carry on up the Khyber, Rosemary and bleeding Thyme or a re re re run of Indiana Jones and the temple of doom.
If I had my way, he would be subjected to a subtitled "arty" production, which would go down with him as fart would do in Church......so after a decade together, I have learnt to compromise
Early evening we sat through the "frothy" all-American caper film Salt ( with the non acting trout pout of Angeline Jolie) and later when Chris goes to bed I will settle down with the Korean movie mother

Constance sleeping through the movie with her head on my feet
It's been a bit of a non day today.
We have not done anything interesting
Oh hang on...............
I have defrosted the freezer with the hair dryer,
cut a particularly nasty clingon from Meg''s bum
and spent a merry ten minutes trying to get an antibiotic tablet down a bad tempered hen's gullet!

and who says this blog can be boring

  1. Oh well, never mind, I think THE KING'S SPEECH looks deathly dull, though everyone seems to love it!

And don't you hate Colin Firth in everything except in A SINGLE MAN?

  2. We went to see it last night. The ling was long and the head usher came out and said "sold out". As was "The Black Swan". Settled for a cheap hamburger, early.

  3. I like to think that DH and I are the traditional empty nesters - He watches his sports crud on the tv in the living room and I half watch/listen to the tv and am on the computer in the bedroom. We like it this way. He spends the whole evening flipping channels and catching parts of 2 or 3 games - it drives me nuts.

  4. btw, Alex looks though as he needs cheering up. May I suggest some Strindberg.

  5. I am turning into my mother and whilst I love being out and about in daylight hours, when it comes to dark night, I like being cosied up with hubby on the sofa with the curtains drawn! xxxxx

  7. "we lit the fire and decided to stay in yet again with a dvd like two old ladies." Hey, as an old lady I resemble that remark! :) Nothing wrong with staying in by the fire on a winter's night.

And Alex, I am shocked, shocked I tell you! Colin Firth is GORGEOUS! The wet shirt scene from P & P is permanently burned on my retinas.

  8. It was that kind of a day. Our highlight was reading yesterdays and todays papers. Your day sounds positively thrilling in comparison!

  9. We like to stay in and watch films. My favorite is The Sound Of Music with the GOAT song but my lady is tired of me requesting that. She watched "Ballet Russes" AGAIN. OK... I like ballet but she's seen that film several times.

Constance looks especially CUTE in that photo.

  11. I've enjoyed one and a half days of glorious boring!! Unfortunately with a cold, but hey ho...finished an entire Ken Follet novel (Whiteout), two major crosswords and Rudy bringing steaming hot tea on demand. Back to reality tomorrow.

  13. Absolutely luvved Colin Firth as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. I'm looking forward to The King's Speech. But for actors, my No.1 is Ewan McGregor who I first noticed in Trainspotting. His latest movie The men who Stare at Goats is fascinating.

  16. It was a do nothing day here, too, except for the have-to-dos.

  17. While boring may make for scanty content in a blog, it is nice to just sit with someone and enjoy. Even if you have differing tastes... (Says she who enjoys Tudor/Elizabethan stories, with Husbands preference for Terminator flicks...)

(Who thinks the King's Speech sounds interesting as all get out...)

  18. Judging by her level of excitement, I'm assuming that Constance was watching her Crufts DVD for the umpteenth time. "Cor! Look at that cocker spaniel! He's a right dog innit!"

  19. I confess to spending much of the day under the quilts, ridding myself of a cold of sorts, and mostly just wanting the world to pass me by.
The older I get, the more I love the staying home bit.
I used to feel left out, I may be missing something, but no longer, light the candles, put the kettle on, and nest ...aaahh :)
    Boring, my choice.

  20. I've been watching the complete set of DVDs for the 4 years of FarScape, a sci fi show made in Australia 1999-2003. I absolutely love it, bought a set for my brother and he loves it, too. It's not like a TV show, it has more of a movie feel. The dialogue is clever, the relationships are interesting and fun. Be sure to start with year 1, show 1. Let me know if you try it, and if you like it.

  22. A night in my favorite way of being. Just sit and enjoy the home and hearth. Not sure if you have said this before, but I think you're a bit of a cinema snob!! Being the simpleton that I am, I really do not like having to read subtitles. Sorrrrrry.

Your posts on your village life are so lovely. THere seems to be a lot of love around you...though I know that you get what you give. I am definately a hermit, especially compared to you.

Also, what's the deal with the Chinese lanterns? Do they float into space, or just hang in the gardens?? Inquiring minds want to know.

  23. We take it in turns to pick or the boys would have one of the Bourne films on permanently!

Colin Firth is aging but at least he is eternally young on repeats !

  24. Constance always makes me smile. And, I'm another one who rarely goes out after dark. It's just too cozy to sit in the house with the cats purring.

I'm afraid you would be appalled at my taste in film. It has to have a happy ending, and nothing too terribly scary. So, I end up going to movies like "The Dawn Treader" which I just loved. Other than that type of movie, give me the classics every time.

  25. You pretty much always make me smile, John.

Hope you are both feeling better now. :-)
