Christmas Socializing

We used to have a rather robust Christmas social life a few years back!
It was drinks here and nibbles there.......All Bar One with too many bottles one night and a mediocre festive Ward Night out with a horde of drunken nurses the next!
Perhaps we would go to the carol service in Sheffield Cathedral then it would be a meal at Mike and Bevs to swap gifts!
That was a while ago!
This weekend we had tons planned  .
Friday was a meal out with Nuala
Tonight we had booked to have friends Hazel and Alan round for supper
and tomorrow Chris has got us tickets for the cinematic live performance of the Bolshoi Ballet's Nutcracker!

Hey Ho
Nu couldn't make it up to Wales because of the awful weather
Hazel has the flu
and the ballet starts at the bloody early time of 16.00....a half hour before the chickens need locking up!
So its a night in front of the fire again
"I'm not socializing either!"

  2. Oh Good Lord! You've assassinated Constance and had her head mounted just above your skirting board! Rather like the gentry in their hunting lodges with stags' heads etc.. Poor wee Constance - she deserved better than that.

  3. Oh my, sorry your plans went awry, John. But can think of worse things than a night in front of a cozy fire. I just LOVE Constance. Why does she remind me of a great English statesman? LOL! Have a great weekend. Jo

  4. Enjoy your nights in (the cat-flap) anyway, John.

  5. Ah well, you'll be safe and warm all night. Besides, you'll need the time to pry Constance's head out of that flap.

  7. Sorry about your plans and about the weather - the weather in Europe and the havoc it's causing have made the TV news here in NZ. Constance is priceless! That head! Sleeping in the catflap? What did Albert think of that! Whatta girl.

  9. See why I never plan? I wait till things sort themselves out, you never know, something fun may come up, after all.

Poor Constance, I guess she's like most girl that are a little large and try to fit into something smaller! What a sweetheart!

  10. Nothing much beats an evening at home in front of the fire, but what happened to your dog? Is her name Constance! Thanks for giving me a good laugh. Finally, I'm so glad you enjoyed reading about the transformation of the Scandinavian goats, pretty amazing, I think.--Inger

  11. I laughed when I saw Constance stuck in the doggie door.. That was so fun to see.
Sorry you won't be going out this evening. The news is reporting bad snow storms in your area..all the way here in the USA.. The news is showing videos of cars colliding with other cars and lots of snow blowing.. Maybe it's a good thing you will be home tonight and you are safe.
Those Starlings are a problem. Big HOGS~! Plus they are so noisy..

Good luck with these pests~! Have a great week-end...ta ta for now from Iowa... lots of snow and getting more Sunday evening. I love snow...

  13. LOL Yorkshire Pudding!!! Sorry John. That's too bad your plans didn't turn out but I agree with Jo (ABiT) and Jo that a night in front of the fire isn't so bad...is it? All snuggled in with your animals for the evening...crackling fire watching Christmas movies? Besides what better entertainment can you have than Constance! Hope you have/had a good one.

  14. Your post made me sad but the comments have me laughing 'till it hurt!

I hope you have a LOVELY evening at home. Tip a bottle of wine and toast that you have a warm and cozy place to be during the storm.

  16. Next year. Man that Constance has a face only a mother/or daddy could love. Pitifully sweet!! Have a Merry (peaceful, quiet)Christmas my friend. xx

  17. Looks like you'll have fine company tonight .. if constance ever gets her head out of the cat flap!

Best make the most of the fire and a bit of peace and quiet, for once the snow is gone everyone will be out and about socializing again.

We're stuck in ourselves due to heavy snow - but I'm really enjoying it .. at least so far.

Have you tried an automatic pop hole for the chickens? We found it very handy in winter - allowing us to be out and about at dusk rather than having to be home to put hens to bed.

  18. ferris, I would LOVE some but I have 18 hen houses!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah .. didn't realize that you had quite that many hens!! LOL

.. I'll have to pay more attention in future.

How many chickens DO you have?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ah yes, I still wasn't paying attention (I blame the late hour).. its 50+ chickens and many other birds too. Wow!

Sounds like you have your hands full and could well do with a relaxing night by the fire.

Are your birds unhappy with the snow?
