Dyserth (above) is the next, larger village downhill to Trelawnyd.
The main road cuts the top half of the village in two, and the high street , where the few shops are located effectively is made into a one lane road by the fact of cars parked on one side of the road.
Negotiating the high street is a nightmare, as each lane thinks that it is their right of way to drive the 1000 yards or so without stopping, so every day the road remains effectively gridlocked.
This modern day problem brings the worst out in most drivers that face it, I always think...and I hate driving back from the supermarket with Chris every Saturday as I always have to face the gauntlet of Chris yelling "GO ON! DON'T LET THEM THROUGH! DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP................................GO ONNNNNNNNNNNNNN! IT'S OUR RIGHT OF WAY!!!!"
I swear he'll have a stroke one of these days...but I can understand just why he gets so irate........road courtesy seems to be a thing of the past in our need -to-be-there- now modern day lifestyles. Ok, a cheerful wave and a smile still can work wonders when you are facing a line of hot and bothered drivers, but simple flirting behaviours like these, I feel are wearing thin with people that are too busy to effectively deal with those normal little pressures that life have to throw at them.
and I thought living in the country calmed people down!
off to work tonight and tomorrow night...we are in for the hottest days of the year so far this weekend!
It takes me about an hour to get to work everyday which means I get stuck in rush hour traffic--Six lanes of people who are late and in a hurry brings out the worst! I have to admit that I make a great highway vigilante, but I'm afraid I'm going to get my head blown off someday so I try to be nice and smile and wave even though I'd like to run someone right into the ditch!! ;-))
ReplyDeleteHello John, I'm SO glad we don't have that in the little town where we do some of our shopping. The main street is nice and wide and has angled parking on both sides and best of all...the road is made of brick. It doesn't make for a nice smooth ride but we love the character it adds. We finally got sun here in Kansas so we're happy although now we have wind warnings for the afternoon. I hope you and Chris have a wonderful weekend...enjoy the sun! Take care :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Road courtesy is gone!If you are ever unlucky enough to drive in Houston ,TX traffic you will think you entered some kind of vehicular hell! I would rather do just about anything than have to drive down into that city!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Melodie on Houston. Dallas is bad, but Houston, I have never been to another city with traffic like Houston! Usually by the time I get home from Dallas I am totally wore out from dealing with all the traffic/drivers.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part out here where we live drivers are pretty good and no real traffic to speak of.
Road courtesy has gone the way of all things, everyone thinks they should get to their destination ... First!
ReplyDeleteI can see your temperatures are getting pretty high now, ours too. We are looking for 88F today - and humid.
Working 2 nights in a row, guess we won't see much of you for a couple of days, or do you read fast and type quickly? I hope there is nothing too bad for you to take care of.

I just noticed that you have 50 followers now! :) Congrats.
ReplyDeleteRoad rage. Yup, it seems to be everywhere. Lack of common courtesy and common sense.
Everyone is in such a hurry.
A hurry to go where? To be the first at the light? The first to the stop sign. The first in line? Hmmmmm.

ReplyDeleteI have groupies!
what larks pip!
So surprised that there is traffic congestion in that 'quaint little village' in Wales!!! Amazing......guess it is everywhere. My theory is that 'road rage' stems from unresolved ,repressed anger issues. It's a great chance for some to use traffic jams to 'let off steam' from something that happened in the near or distant past.
ReplyDeleteThat's my lesson for the day, kiddies!
Hello John. We are lucky, I 'spose, living in rural Australia as most of our rural towns have wide main avenues with copious room to angle park along either side (and sometimes down the centre) and still have enough space for two lanes. Biggest bugbear is where towns deide whether angle parking should be 'nose inwards' or 'rear inwards' and is always a topical debate. Personally I prefer 'nose inwards' as it places the onus of safe egress on the parked motorist and allows traffic the right of way, whereas 'rear inwards' stops all through traffic in that lane while the motorist reverses inwards.
ReplyDeletejim...its not our village! thank goodness
ReplyDeletejohn
nice to have your comments
Never would have thought your part of the country would have such traffic problems. Sure glad I don't drive anymore. The road rage thing is way to scary. Be safe. Hope you get some rest with all the work your have lined up.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised they haven't put a by-pass in, as that seems to be the thing to do nowadays?
ReplyDeleteGill in Canada
Ugh, we had high 90s this last weekend and it's only May!!
ReplyDeleteSame here in our small town-there are several times during the day when you might think you have landed in Atlanta instead-the traffic gets horrid, and nobody seems to remember their blinker, or their traffic laws. Manners, neither.
