No Way!
Gay men from all over the world are yelling "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!" in response to the news that Kate Winslett is going to star in a remake of Joan Crawford's "waitress to lady" pot boiler Mildred PierceWhat next? Nicole Kidman as Margo Channing in All about Eve? or perhaps Rosie O'Donnell as a butch Scarlett O'Hara?Oh The Horror!I feel sick
I never cared for Mildred Peirce.
ReplyDeleteoh James...! I guess u are more a bette man!
ReplyDeleteI'd luv to kiss ya, but I just washed my hair.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I ever saw "Mildred Pierce".
ReplyDeleteI did go to see "How to Tame a Dragon" today. Cute movie. However, I must be one of the few who isn't that thrilled with 3D. My eyes watered all the way through the movie, and, after about the first half hour, you forget about the 3D and were just watching a movie anyways. I'm glad I went, just to see what it was like, but, I won't bother with it again.
Hmmm, picturing Rosie O'Donnell as Scarlet O'Hara.... e-gad!
ReplyDeleteMy lady likes the original "Mildred Pierce". She doesn't see a need for a remake!
ReplyDeleteWhy the horror? Kate Winslett is a good actress. I love "Mildred Pierce" and will definitely see this remake.
ReplyDeleteAHHHH DAMN
ReplyDeleteThat makes my specker wilt in horror!

mark.....kate is a brilliant actress(I have even named one of my favourite hens after her) but in a remake of Mildred Pierce!?
ReplyDeleteclassic films (ofany age) in my opinion should be left as classics, remakes seldom surpass the original
(Alex I challenge you to name 5 remakes that are BETTER than the original!)
why remake perfection that's what I say
having said this I guess I too will go and see it!
Good challenge, John ...
ReplyDeleteCan't think of many recent examples, but I prefer the 1957 AFFAIR TO REMEMBER to the 1939 LOVE AFFAIR and the 1956 MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH to the 1934 version.
There are a few American remakes of French films that I prefer to the originals as well: PARADISE, SOMMERSBY, even 3 MEN AND A BABY.
Then there are the "musicalised" versions of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and HAIRSPRAY, both better than the original films, I'd say.
But, generally speaking, not a great idea.
Oh no, say it isn't so?!!! A remake of Mildred Pierce! Why oh why do they deem it okay to keep remaking classics. I say leave the oldies but goodies alone. And the remakes are awful!
ReplyDeleteWhat's next, a remake of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? Or A Streetcar named Desire? Or......
