X-Factor is self-consciously funny, cruel and ironic in equal measure - in this sense, the more sophisticated of the two shows - although I won't be watching it this year as I don't really have the time (too busy enjoying re-runs of Crow Road, ST:Voyager and Secret Millionaire)!
But, as for Strictly...even the 'popular' abbreviation of title makes me shudder, perhaps because for me it misses the (creative) point of the genre, but mostly because I don't 'identify' with it all...frocks, tight pants, early-evening 'light entertainment'. It's what I call 'Meringue TV'...and it's not for me!
That said, both shows provide interesting comments on how social class is 'performed' on television. Take a look at BBC4's slightly unpleasant and contrived quiz show Only Connect to see this principle writ large.
Enjoy your (very) fresh chicken sarnies and speak soon Nx
How are you going to cope, now that X-Factor and 'Strictly' are scheduled together? I know you enjoy watching both prime-time shows. Nx

Wasn't able to get this video here---the sign said "not available in this country due to copywrite laws". Oh well.
