The Ian Parry Scholarship http://www.ianparry.org/main.php was won this year by Vicente Jaime Villafranca with a rather gritty view of the drug taking mafia in Manilla.
After review of the entries, I think I preferred the work of runner up entrant Giovanni Cipriano (work above)
I cannot believe that if Ian had lived he would now be 42. Chris and I visited his grave last Sunday
I liked the work by Matt Eich (the ethnography of small town american poverty), which I imagine you wouldn't have been keen on at all. I thought you'd have liked those of Gratiane de Moustier, although they're rather bleak, so perhaps not. I'm less keen about your favourite, a little untextured and personable for my taste, although the subjects themselves are interesting and the quality is superb. Gosh, how pretentious I'm becoming! I'm hurtling into middle age, picking up dust as I move.
