A gentle face

Watching the excellent film CAPOTE , I was impressed with the actor CATHERINE KEENER, who played Nell Harper Lee. Her character was friend, muse, mother and concience to the brittle and at times repulsive Trueman Capote, played by Philip Seymor Hoffman, and I felt she captured her gentle goodness perfectly. She also Looked the part, I felt. She has a quiet beauty which suited her role.

I was quite moved by her

  1. I've not yet seen Capote, but your comments feel familiar, JG. Read anything by Capote, and you'll hear her reified, homely presence in the text. I've never really subscribed to the pseudo-theory that Lee actually wrote much of In Cold Blood (and he, To Kill a Mockingbird), but there's a symbiosis (or at least, a locality) to their early work that makes such a proposition seem somehow believable.

  2. I think she was a telling and strong force for good in Capote's life.

This phrase I think underlines this

"I think Jack [Capote's parnter] "is the only reason why I like you Truman"

it was said as always with a gentle calm demenor.

I think that was a direct quote
