Well.....I understand that it's not quite on a par with selling your millionth book on Amazon but Going Gently has received it's first six figure page view.
I am vain enough to " enjoy" the fact even though that many of my " hits" are automated and not generated by bulldog loving housewives in the American mid west or nostalgic ex teachers in scenic South yorkshire
In my mind a million hits are a million hits!
Cue ticker tape and vuvuzelas!!!!!

Going Gently is nothing more that a little look at an ordinary life in a village that has seen better days. Ok, it has the draw of a set of characters that please..( pole dancing bulldogs, handicapped rabbits and  a ninety five year old, scone obsessed old lady) but essentially it remains a diary about an odd family of sorts....a diary which has now become an essential part of my daily routine to write.

Sometimes I wish I could write a blog with the precision and talent shown by a certain " ranting" old Somerset resident. Other times I wish I was as witty as a boozy ex pat hidden away in the African bush or as mad as " mad as a box of frogs" Ursula who lives God knows where......
But I'll settle for a daily and mundane chronicle of mucky wellies, bowel habits and chicken's prolapses

Thank you all for reading.

Winifred........Going Gently

  1. I enjoy reading your blog just as it is, an ordinary chap jogging along coping with what life throws at him the best he can; just like the rest of us. You make me laugh, think about things, also make me realise how lucky I am after reading some of things that happen to some of the people you write about. As for Winifred going gently.... well aww!

  2. Congrats on the milestone!!

  3. Your stats seem as unbelievable as mine. Who reads this crap? I guess many of us dream of living in an English village, sorry, Welsh village surrounded by animals and community. Is is really so simple? I guess not. Whatever, I enjoy reading your blog and getting to know the characters, human and animal.

  4. Brilliant milestone - congratulations.

You keep putting pictures of the gorgeous Winifred on your Blog and we'll keep coming back.

Of course it helps that half your titles bring over folk who are SO not expecting to see a Blog about four legged friends, a turkey called Bingley and a scotch egg obsessed bearded nurse ;-)

  42. I love this peek at your life, John. I've always wanted to run away to a village somewhere (right now, it's in Ireland...or New Zealand) and toil away (at God-knows-what) until the locals accept me as one of their own.
To be honest, that's what I've done...I guess.
But, I enjoy your village, your farm, and scones, so I'll help you get to two million. Congratulations!

  47. Your blog is my absolute favourite - and I have a fair few on my list! I love that you write about the everyday, but most of all because I come away either with a giggle, a tear in my eye, or quite often a big belly laugh. You have a wonderful way of observing life and putting it into words - thank you for taking the time to share :o) (Yours is the only blog shared among the four of us; DW (me), DH, son age 14, daughter age 13, living in the antipodes (NZ))

  49. Wahay....fame......will fortune follow? no need for monetary riches though...you describe your blessings every day. I'm stuck at 47 followers and it drives me mad.........have never bothered with stats before but over the last week or so I have wanted the 47 to change to a 50...sad eh? Don't stop rambling on John....gentleness and humour and love are always a welcome break in any day. x

    ReplyDelete
  50. Woo-hoo!

It takes a good writer to turn the everyday stuff into great reading material, and you do it all the time. It doesn't hurt that you have a good heart and quick wit. I always read although I don't always comment. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.

I just realized I've never seen a bulldog with eyes closed (don't know any bulldogs in real life). She looks utterly at peace.

  51. Well done John! I am impressed even with your page views. I think I had about 30 page views today. Sometimes I do get disheartened by the lack of interest shown in my blog posts but we can't all be popular can we? Anyway, I console myself in 'knowing' the famous John! x

  78. Congratulations John! Your blog has humanity, self-deprecating humour and honesty. It tunes people back into some of the simpler things in life - community, cheekiness, our fellow creatures and scotch eggs. These are things that are missing from many people's lives and that is one of the main reasons for your massive "hit" harvest. Keep up the good "work"!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Congrats on the milestone, John!! I've not checked mine lately, so I'll have to see where I fall, but I've no doubt whatsoever that I'll never reach that--Because I do not think my blogging career will last through next year.
