Annette, one of the ladies on my chicken course, sent me an email yesterday, she attached a photo (above) of her father with his hens, and I must admit I did smile as if you remove his cigarette (and add some scruffier clothes) it could have been a photo of me!
I have been pretty knackered today.so Sunday has actually meant rest,relaxation and the completion of necessary jobs ONLY. After their walks the dogs crashed out (above Maddie and Albert), with the exception of George who I think is suffering from field mites between his toes, so he is spending his time biting and licking his feet.
Despite not being able to hold our show last year, due to renovations to the memorial hall, today's attendance was phenomenal. The hall itself looked lovely as each tea table was covered in an antique embroidered tablecloth with a small vase of sweet peas placed in its centre (very Homes and Gardens)
The consensus was that the whole thing was another great success, and it was great to see that the old faithful entry winners rubbed shoulders with a host of new prize winners. Newbees such as Neighbours Pippa,Terry( who won the welsh cakes!), Aunt Judy,Joanne and Geoff all won first and second places, which of course gives them the confidence and motivation for entering next years show. 
Our Committee is now up to strength, so everyone pulled their weight with good humour and team spirit(above Treasurer Irene, Auntie Gladys -who has been on the committee for 58 years!,new member the affable Sandra and the calm as cucumber Heulwyn
Sandra and Derek manned the ever popular raffle. I was pleased as punch when she won 5 prizes at her first attempt! (she beat me in the onions!)
I was slightly nervous, when I realised I had to make a speech being chairman, but I managed fairly well with the wireless microphone!. Presenting the prize for best garden (sheltered accommodation) was ex teddy boy and professional judge Mr Norman Butler, who states he has always been a fan of our show
My sister donated a huge hamper for the raffle and by doing so, cemented everlasting ties with her own Prestatyn show. Many of her friends and allotment colleagues entered a whole score of classes, and again I was happy to see several of them win prizes.Above Auntie Gladys with our donated raffle prizes

Attendance was up, and morale amid the committee seemed even higher and I must admit it was a joy working alongside of a group of nice, like minded and genuine people
Despite Not having the school children's' work in the show ( an error of liaison) we have received a good three hundred separate entries , which is an excellent result, especially as the weather has decimated the vegetable and Flower Crop this month.Hummmmm....already I can see homages to Independence day (Airforce One's escape) .....Everything but the kitchen sink has been thrown at this one, but I suspect I will love it to death!
Just found out that a new disaster film(2012 ) is about to be released! Now I know it's going to be a version of The day after tomorrow, and therefore pretty banal (but certainly enjoyable in a guilty....tv movie kind of way)
