The heat is rising
It’s not as awful as in France and Germany , as the German reported 36 degrees and high humidity today, but it’s uncomfortable .
My cottage is southfacing, so at times like these it’s important to keep downstairs where the stone walls are thickest. The Welsh with their thick coats are quiet in their chairs and black cats absorb the heat, so they have hidden away , probably in the garden under hydrangea or the holly
Was it only a year ago that I was sat in Madrid sipping gin on Plaza Major ? Celebrating my qualification
How time flys.
Dave Wilson has done a marvellous job with the Garden Party posters. Can any clever reader work out what is “ wrong” with the Rectory at a first glance ?
The two windows on the right side of the house are just painted on
Keep cool people
Keep cool

Sitting here, in shorts and a sleeveless top, fan on, doors wide open, and still sweating! I hope it's cooler for you tonight. No fun having to work in this heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteThe Garden Party poster looks good. xx
I’m pretty cool and comfortable , the cottage has thick stone walls
DeleteEnjoying the air conditioning on this rainy and very humid day. Am glad you have stone walls that keep your sitting room and kitchen cooler. Cheers for cross ventilation, too!
ReplyDeleteLove gorgeous the Garden Party poster!
Hugs!
I adore air con
DeleteWhat an inviting and delightful Garden Party poster! Well done, Dave!
ReplyDeleteHoping your shift this evening is quiet and cool.
He did well
DeleteLovely poster John, he's done a great job. I wish I could go, sounds like a wonderful time will be had by all.
ReplyDeleteJust concerned John your phone number is showing above, I don't want you potentially receiving any annoying calls from the unknown people from the internet.

DeleteThe Garden Party poster looks terrific and very nicely done! I suspect the event will be a huge success.
ReplyDeleteThe coolness provided by your thick walls downstairs in your home are a godsend. Hopefully the heat will not last for to many days.
36c is hot will the hospice be air conditioned? How about your car? Do you use fans to cool off? Play pool for the doggies? It’s grey and chilly here. Wearing a warm fleece

We only have an office with air con
DeleteKeep cool people. Keep cool... Hey, I have always been a cool dude Johnboy. Just look at my wardrobe. I am so cool many people think I am a frigging eskimo!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading all kinds of horror stories about that heat wave. I hope they're exaggerated.
ReplyDeletesitting here enjoying early morning cool..thinking of friends in France at 41⁰. (and the record of 43⁰ in another place there). Glad this house has been insulated...I'll be shutting windows and curtains soon
ReplyDeleteThe poster looks amazing. Very hot here but it looks like just a few more days.
ReplyDeleteThat is hot for there. Friends north of London told me they hit around 40 the other day. Can’t imagine that without AC.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how Europe at large can do without AC. I live in Illinois, where in summer, it gets hot and humid and STAYS hot and humid for months, well into the high 90's and oftentimes 100 and above, so AC is life-saving. LOVE the poster, so charming and inviting. A year already since your certification, oh my, how time does speed right on!
ReplyDeleteI turned cool and rained here yesterday. Over 100F in parts of France, that is miserable.
ReplyDeleteAfter having one hot humid day in early June here in Toronto, I broke down and had a heat pump/air conditioner mini split installed. I have only used it for one day so far as we have been having what I call perfect summer days. The only time I have done 40 degrees was in India and it was awful. Keep cool, John. The upcoming garden party sounds like it will be fun and a good money maker for the Hall. Gigi
ReplyDeleteHere in Virginia I always lived in an unairconditioned house until 12 or so years ago, which means that there were many many upper 90s/low100s days every summer, with very high humidity. One difference is that houses were designed for cross breezes, shade on windows, etc, which are less needed and thus less common. Since we finally got our old house (not by your standards!) air conditioned it's a great thing to fall back on! Love the poster, I'd be there for the homemade cakes and trombola (which I had to look up) for sure!

well if you write a book about our village then a lot of people are going to be fucked off with you because you havent asked us and have only asked your friends who dont speak for the village and many people feel you are just using us for people in your blog . and all the moaning about having no money! you have no idea how lucky you are compared to some of us not a clue . stop begging and stop using peopple
ReplyDeleteOh, there she is - I was wondering when she was going to comment - and my guess is she does not live in or near your village.
DeleteOh lord the pseudo troll speaks
DeleteYou are not from the village , pretending you are is sad
DeleteHope the temps cool down for you and everyone stays safe. I bet you get a great turnout for the party as it looks like it will be very nice.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t sold a ticket yet
DeleteA brilliant poster for sure. If the name of the house is The Rectory, the 'T' of 'the' should be capitalised, if it is just a local nickname for a house with another name, then both words should be lowercase.
ReplyDeleteInteresting
DeleteOn the news last night a local chippy closed because next to the fryers it measured 60'
ReplyDeleteI just can't imagine! I bought one of those cool mats for my dog who refuses to lay on it, so I have pinched it 😅 stay safe and well xx
The cottage walls are=18 inches thick , tonight I’m cool
DeleteThere is a rectory in Shotton, Deeside which has the similar windows painted on. I understand it is something to do with an ancient window tax. Like the colourful poster, very eye catching.
ReplyDeleteI think I know it
DeleteMy utterly daft black cat heads straight out into it and finds a spot of shade to snooze it. It's cooler indoors, but he insists on going out. I gather that felines can suffer from heat stroke, but he apparently knows better! Arilx
