The Disney Rule

The weakness in my arm continues undiagnosed. I have had to temper my frustration with an acceptance that most nhs care is somewhat slow and disjointed.
I have, off my own back, referred myself to a Welsh Government initiative which provides free therapy time for people returning to work and this morning I met Jessimy my case manager ( yes I have a case manager!!!!!) who couldn’t have been nicer and bingo, next week I meet with a physio who is a specialist in shoulder and muscle injuries.
I’m compensating in the use of my arm , but it still is weak and I had an embarrassing time the other day, with noticeable trouble lifting a heavy set of fire logs in the supermarket in order for the clerk to scan it.
Let’s hope the physio can work their magic.

After meeting Jessimy, I drove to Dyserth to meet Chic Eleanor for lunch
She was in fine form, full of good humour and warmth,
When she says goodbye, she always hugs
And she never stops hugging until you do.

This always  reminds me of this discussion of The Disney Rule

A good lesson for us all

What a lovely rule and, indeed, a lesson for us all. I grew up in a family of huggers and AMIL used to thank me for bringing hugging back into her life.
Most excellent for you to have found a therapy program that may help your weakened arm. Hope so!
Good thing choir doesn't depend on strong arms. :-)

    Hugs!

  8. I have never heard of the "Disney rule" but that is very touching. I hope the mystery of the arm thing gets solved! You're not kidding about the NHS. I seem to get a different doctor every time I go.

  15. Hoping the physio can work some magic on your arm. It's been too long now!
I love that Disney rule. I already apply it to a family member who is uncomfortable with physical contact. Just the briefest hug, after a warning that I'm going to do it. Seems to work! xx

  17. Jessimy is a lovely name, is it a man or woman? You need not be embarrassed not to be able to lift things! Esp in a supermarket. Many of us cannot do that---I had to stop doing big weekly grocery shoppings bec I couldn't manage the labor of packing my reusable bags while the cashier looked on yawning and chewing her gum. And---firewood in June? Brrrr. Anyway, good for you to manage your health issues.

I don't come from a culture of hugging, it seems invasive to me. I''m sure my parents never hugged me even once. Took me years to get used to NYC air kisses...but I'm trying to do better, hug the kids and friends. [but I cringe inside].

Being nit-picky - CLERK? have you moved to the US?

Never hugged as a child - still find it hard but I try.

  21. The last time I was in a doc's office, the secretary commented: "We do not make things easy."
Another med professional said: "Doctors nor patients are happy."
I hope the new physio appointment is helpful. It is a marathon to get anything done successfully.
Nobody hugs in my family. I guess it is what I am used to.

Hugs. We never get enough of them. An elderly cousin passed away suddenly last week. A friend who generally isn’t a hugger gave me a long good hug when I told her about this. It meant so much. Just a hug from someone who cares can be so comforting

John, I’m so glad you advocated for yourself and will get physio. We call it PT here. I was amazed after one session that I felt so much better.
I am a BIG hugger! I love to hug and be hugged! Glorious! It makes me feel so good. I believe I was in my early twenties when I just started hugging those I loved. My parents and brothers followed along. If I meet someone new I ask if it’s ok first, but I do not remember being turned down . I look forward to giving you a giant hug in September.
Take excellent care of yourself. I hope you get answers about your arm soon.
    Sending hugs and peace💙

Have you had scans on your arm/shoulder? . I don’t understand how g your NHS works but you can book your own appointment in Oz and the GP can send you for scans/X-rays and give you 5 discounted visits to a physio. You must be so frustrated and I hope you are better soon

  28. Before we go on holiday, my wife is my case manager. She makes sure that I have got enough underpants and socks in it.

Sorry to hear that that weakness persists and I hope that the experienced physio can help you to build up your strength in the affected arm or at the very least help you to understand what is going on.

  29. The Disney rule is good..plus it has been found that hugs need to be a minimum of 20 seconds to trigger feel good and relaxing hormones

Only hug those who want to be hugged. I am not a hugger and, therefore, there are very few people I want to hug or I want to hug me. To console someone is a different matter but general day to day hugging…I will pass.

I love that rule! I am a hugger, my family were not growing up but I am a natural at it. I guess it's the closeness. I hope your arm responds to physio, a weakness that cannot be adequately explained is a frustration.

  33. I’ve been living with dementia for quite some time, and for years, I struggled to find lasting relief. Conventional treatments offered limited support, but the symptoms gradually worsened impacting my memory, focus, and daily functioning.
Out of both hope and hesitation, I decided to try an herbal treatment program from NaturePath Herbal Clinic. I’ll be honest I was skeptical at first. But around the four-month mark, I started to notice real changes.
My mental clarity began to improve. The confusion and forgetfulness became less overwhelming. I felt more present, more aware and more myself again. It wasn’t a sudden change, but it was steady and noticeable.
For the first time in years, I feel more connected to the world around me. I can engage better with loved ones, sleep more soundly, and face each day with renewed confidence.

The impact mentally, emotionally, and even physically has been truly uplifting.
If you or a loved one is exploring natural approaches for managing dementia, I sincerely encourage you to consider NaturePath Herbal Clinic. It’s been a life changing journey for me, and I’m deeply thankful I gave it a chance.
