I’m not the only village historian of sorts. My history blog https://trelawnydhistory.blogspot.com/ has been complemented and surpassed by Ma Manley’s beautifully designed book Trelawnyd Map
Karen has been working on the book which is a work in progress and it looks at points of local historical interest, with gossipy asides and home drawn illustrations. It’s quite charming
I’d love to be a part of this initiative .
On the way home I noticed that the beautiful Flower Show posters are up
And the village Telephone Box is suitably packed
Village life at its best
ReplyDeleteKaren loves the real gossip of village life, she found out about a murder in the village from the 1800s
DeleteHer book is a true treasure of artistry and lore -- how lovely it is!
ReplyDeleteShe will be pleased to hear that
DeleteWhat a talented lady.
ReplyDeleteAnd incredibly affable
DeleteThe book is so interesting and so beautifully designed and drawn. Will it be published?
ReplyDeleteWhy is she called Ma? a way of saying missus?
The quilt will be fabulous, will you learn to sew and embroider. Pls keep us posted as the projects progress.
It’s my cheeky nickname for her
DeleteI hope to be an active part in the quilt making
DeleteI'd love that too! I look forward to seeing your contribution ☺️
DeleteWatch this space
DeleteI wish I could sit w you and the dogs, by the fire--and help embroider/ sew/ applique your cottage's quilt block. I'm sure a real life friend or family pperson will help you. [as I seem to recall you do not do needlework---yet.]
DeleteCan we buy the book if published?
A joint book perhaps
DeleteBeautifully charming! Please thank Karen for allowing you to share her work!
ReplyDeleteI will, the object of publishing her work here is to get more people in the village involved
DeleteI love that style of art work in her book. What a treasure! So are the posters.
ReplyDeletePS. I also love that history blog. What a great idea.
DeleteKatie, I started the history blog years ago and am very proud to have it archived by the university library of wales
DeleteThat book is a treasure!
ReplyDeleteIt will be a best seller, I’ve asked Karen to illustrate my cottage
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea to give your sweet home a touch of magic!
DeleteHugs!
Too right
DeleteSuch a talented and dedicated lady. It must have taken a long time to create, but what an achievement. I'm sure if it were published, there would be many buyers! Thank you Karen for allowing John to share with us. The quilt idea is also great. Something for the village to treasure for years to come. I hope you manage to contribute something. An embroidery of the church/ your cottage/ Y Gop, maybe?
ReplyDeleteThe phone box is looking fabulous. I'm sure it is well used and appreciated. xx
I’m going to embroider my cottage for the quilt
DeleteI do hope you will share it with us. I would love to learn how to do that!
DeleteOf course
DeleteWow, what a beautiful book!
ReplyDelete🌈🩷🪡🧵🧶✂️
DeleteI have no idea what that means. I'm no fluent in emoji, yet:)
DeleteThat is one big beautiful book Karen is working on. I was looking for your cottage but she has yet to include it. The quilt is a nice idea too. Gigi
ReplyDeleteShe’s just done the church, my cottage is next
DeleteThat book is truly awesome. I don’t remember reading about the caves.
ReplyDeleteYes the caves are famous ancient hyena and wolf bones have been found inside
DeleteWhat a lovely book Karen has created!! I hope she will draw a 2nd and duplicate page of your cottage so you could frame it and have her sign it! Of course everyone in Trelawnyd will want a copy of her finished book. What talent!
ReplyDeleteNice Flower Show poster, too.
Hugs!
I want her book on display at the flower show
DeleteBeautiful work by Karen ❤️
ReplyDeleteWell you already know her
DeleteJohn have you seen this movie ?
ReplyDeleteHOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT

Lee
Jean Simmons one of her final films , yes I loved it
DeleteI love this film too Lee.
DeleteMaybe she could illustrate the cover of your book, when you write it!
ReplyDeleteGood idea
DeleteSuch a beautiful book
ReplyDeleteThe book looks terrific. I also love the watercolor paintings Karen has included to go with the text. Very nicely done. Will Karen have the book published? The National Trust might also be interested.
ReplyDeleteI love your phone box. If that was in Brighton, it would be vandalised at once. Well done to Karen, her book looks fascinating.
ReplyDeleteKaren's book is a true treasure! What a talented lady she is. I would love to own a copy of her book if it is published. I would treasure it! I can't wait to see your embroidery of your cottage. Such a fun thing to be able to do. Love the flower show posters.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely book! A very talented lady. The quilt idea is wonderful too and it all keeps the life soul of the village so alive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful book! So much love and commitment, so much fascination and unique quality. Up there with Country Diary, I reckon. But another part of the beautiful sense of community that characterises Trelawnyd. How very special you all are!
ReplyDeletethe book is bloody amazing, isn't it..... and the idea of the quilt is exceptional, i really hope everyone gets involved in that one..... looks like you live in a good community
ReplyDeleteThat book is a treasure for generations to come … and beautiful too. Such a talented lady.

Karen's book is a real labour of love and dedication.
ReplyDeleteThat book is indeed a work of art.so well put together! A real treasure!
ReplyDeleteHer book and illustrations look incredible. How exciting. And I love the idea of a quilt. What creativity and dedication.
ReplyDeleteThat is a stunning book, the illustrations are amazing. What a project. I hope she knows how amazing it is. It looks like the kind of project that might be funded and published under a grant. I found the art really inspiring, it made me want to reach for a paint brush and some paints. Jean in Winnipeg
ReplyDeleteSomeone (Cameron?) should be able to scan the book when it is finished so it can be photo printed (there are a ton of online services that print photo books.)
ReplyDelete"Project 2025" has a sinister connotation in the USA, it was the master plan of a conservative group to fundamentally change our Society. An evil bunch of people.
I had the same "EEEKK!" reaction. It in fact IS the master plan, sadly not past at all.
DeleteCeci
Oh no - my master plan is revealed
DeleteWhat an absolute marvelous book that shows the history of your village. She is very talented and generous with her time to produce such a book. Good luck with the flower show.
ReplyDeleteKaren is a wonderful artist and her book looks great. Thanks for the link to your history site. That's a great resource for your village, John.
ReplyDeleteOne very talented lady. That book is fabulous with its hand drawn and hand written detail. Can the lady get the book scanned? KDP (Amazon self publishing) would be great idea. Buy the ISBN to own it should a publisher come knocking... With a KDP ISBN, Amazon soley own the copyrights.
ReplyDelete* Solely
ReplyDeleteWell, that is certainly a labor of love! Impressive work!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea, beautiful book and the idea of a quilt map of the village is excellent. Such a talented lady.
ReplyDeleteAdmire! I admire.
ReplyDeleteHello John,
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying your blog for a while now. Even though I don't have much time to comment. My English isn't that good, so I'm using Google Translate. Sorry for the translation.
Karin's book is magical. I'm very impressed. I draw nature in a sketchbook myself. Also only what I see in our village. Please give Karen my best regards, and it's wonderful that everyone everywhere loves their region.
Stay healthy, everyone. Best, Katja
