This stunning photo, is the best illustration of the presence of goats of Llandudno . Recently the council has rounded up some of the younger goats and the Billy’s of the splinter heard and have transported them to new sites in Bristol and Bournemouth, but the majority of the herd remains intact here with contraceptives administered to the females wild now on the Orme
This photo was sent to me by Facebook yesterday. It was dated 4 years ago “today” and was taken at the very last Flower Show when I was Show Chair and general dogsbody
The lady in the photo was a new exhibitor to the show. She was the mother of an ex colleague of mine who had suffered severe depression following an extensive stroke. It was her first trip out in public.
As part of some rehab, her daughter had suggested that she enter several of the art classes of the show and because of the fact she had indeed entered most she managed to nab the most points in the art section, which meant that she won the Rowenna Wrigley Cup.
When I called her name out, amid the crowded hall she promptly burst into surprised and happy tears and joyously skipped forward for me to present her with her trophy, The photo captured that moment when she hugged me her thanks.
I remember The Flower Show and this story made me tear up in a happy way.
ReplyDeleteA long time ago in a place far away
DeleteI,too, remember your last Flower Shop, and your mixed feelings about stepping down.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story and photo of a wonderfully happy time at the show. Completely heartwarming.
Hugs!
Yes I’m sorry I finished the flower show committee but we were planning to move …..so it seemed like the only solution
DeleteOh, and marvelous picture of the goat! You should hang that somewhere in your home. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs!
The lone goat looking out to sea made me feel tearful x
ReplyDeleteIt’s striking isn’t it
DeleteSpontaneously hugging...it seems like forever...
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget you ironing your mother's embroidered tablecloths to use at the Flower Show. How happy and excited you were!
ReplyDeleteYes I worked incredibly hard . Those table clothes were donated ( I kept a few) . The bunting was given to the Prestatyn flower show
DeleteThe goat is yearning for his friends, his band of brothers, kidnapped and taken far away to England, how sad.
ReplyDeleteI re-established the Horticultural Show in my people's Shropshire village, and it was amazing how the atmosphere changed. Everyone suddenly became competitive and friendly again. Prize-winners were ecstatic. Your photo brings it all back.
ReplyDeleteThe show has been resurrected albeit it in a smaller capacity ( I ran a big show it must be said) I think I may get involved again.
DeleteThe Flower Show must have been at least partially responsible for the development of such a wonderfully supportive spirit during lockdown. You're a Good Man, John Gray!
ReplyDeleteThe flower show was originally a spin off from the village welfare committee ( which supported the poor of the village)and it started around 1970 to support the upkeep of the village hall. The flower show paid for many things including upkeep of the hall, hall curtains , repair to the clock etc as well as village initiatives such as donations towards the school, conservation group and the like. When the flower show eventually closed , we donated sizeable chunks of money to the newly formed community association and to the carnival committee
DeleteWhat a wonderful memory. The goat photo is stunning. Is it going on your art wall? xx
ReplyDeleteNo but I will keep a copy of it
DeleteGreat photo!
ReplyDeleteThe Flower Show gave a lot of fun and enjoyment. Some financial support to the village too. It's so hard to run these things without either a few dedicated people, or many people all giving some time and effort. Very worth it though!
We had a team of ten , and a great team they are( were)
DeleteIt's a lovely moment when the right person wins!
ReplyDeleteIf you'd had a photographic section at the flower show, the goat picture would have won.
Maybe it's time to resurrect the flower show?
It started up before lockdown it is due to come back next year
DeleteWill you be inveigled onto the committee? I wouldn't bet on you not being!
DeleteHope the flower/produce show and Fair where I enter things will get going again next year.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one day your village one will start up again.
It will next year

ReplyDeleteit would be wonderful if you got involved in the show again. i miss that show. i think we all wish we had something like it where we live.
ReplyDeleteIt was a focal point a d a highlight in the year
DeleteLovely story John and I am sure a lovely memory for the lady concerned.
ReplyDeleteSo the goats are a pest species in your corner of the world?
ReplyDeleteNo there are just a finite number that can live on the peninsular
DeleteThat picture has so much sweetness in it.
ReplyDeleteYou can’t fake it x
DeleteThe next time, we need to take a drive around the point, see the goats.
ReplyDeleteWe do x
DeleteI love that picture of the Goat on the cliff overlooking the water!
ReplyDeleteAnd the picture of the winner ... so touching and telling as to the wonder of the moment!!
Every picture tells a story
DeleteI am often amazed at how different your world is compared to mine. Yet we do seem to have many thoughts and feelings in common. xx
ReplyDeleteWhich one resonated with u
DeleteThat's a lovely story. Have you missed preparing an entry for the flower show this last 2 (!) years?
ReplyDeleteNo but I’ve missed preparing the show
DeleteAre you thinking of going back to it in some capacity? You have a considerable talent for organising people and the flower show brought you a lot of joy. I hope you work out a way to be involved or another activity that is equally as satisfying.
DeleteYes I think I am
DeleteNice to be reminded of that special moment from pre-Covid days. I wonder who Rowena Wrcigley was...bet she liked chewing gum.
ReplyDeleteThe flower show and the many photos over the years were such a special event in the village and glad that it will be again, I'm sure you will be welcomed with open arms John. The goat photo has a haunting quality to it
ReplyDeletekeep looking back at it.
I remember that Flower Show, it was a special one indeed. I love the story of the photo!
ReplyDeleteI did a painting like that goat on the mountain when I was at art school.
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
