Getting There

Saturday is my general weigh in day.
I use the scales at work, which are hidden away in our physiotherapy department .
My total weight loss to date is over 23lbs
,hopefully a few pounds more as I’m on nights tonight.
I have double that weight to go.
I feel on track.
Now only those with weight issues will understand how painful it is looking a photographs of yourself when you hate your size
A mirror doesn’t lie, ever…even though you may hide behind a friend when the camera comes out .
Simply dieting never works, you have to be in the right frame of mind to be able to let go of comfort eating
I’ve reached that frame of mind.
Thank fuck for that !

The poster is my latest purchase

  1. Well done with the weight John. I have never been grossly overweight but an extra stone, which I am at the moment, is too much. When one lives alone - as you and I both do, it is so easy to comfort eat. I know my danger signals - crisps in the cupboard are a no no and early evening over the television. Keep it up.

  2. Good on you, John. If only weight was as easy to take off as it seems to put on. Truth be told, we "work" at putting it on as well.

I had a bit of a problem with one too many ladies drinks but I then I got fed up with hangovers-I stopped buying it and never really missed it-now about 12 years later I don't want any-for me it was a habit in fact I get quite a buzz from not-I do know one glass and I may not stop-So I say step away-Keep it up John x

Not sure what "ladies drinks are but do you mean you were an alcoholic? Knowing you can't have one drink or you wouldn't stop is a classic sign, been there, done that and been proudly wearing the tee shirt for 12 years.

Good for you, John! As my dear AMIL used to say, "eat a bit less and move a bit more is all there is to weight loss." She also said she'd dieted so much that she was sure she'd lost her entire self several times!! I surely miss that wonderful woman.
Where shall you hang your new poster?

    Hugs!

  8. Congratulations on reaching the right frame of mind. I think I may be the only person who lost weight during 2020. Now the trick is to not gain it back.
Have you perhaps stopped comfort eating and replaced it with comfort buying? If so, at least you have lovely purchases.

  12. Fancy a fresh sausage roll - still slightly warm with golden flaky pastry? Or perhaps a mini pork pie from Melton Mowbray - with crisp pastry and the seasoned pork mince filling sealed in an aspic jelly? Or perhaps char-grilled chicken souvlaki in a warm envelope of pitta bread with shredded lettuce and a squidge of garlic sauce? Or a whole-wheat "Ryvita" wiped with "Marmite"?

I assume you've never had a problem with comfort eating or you wouldn't have written such a cruel reply. Comfort eating is a known medical problem which causes much anguish and unhappiness and it's certainly not something to joke about. At the other end of the spectrum is anorexia, something else that isn't funny. Death can be caused by both conditions. Couldn't you have just said Well Done John?

Seems like you replaced comfort eating with compulsive shopping. Do you get restless and fidgety when you feel the need to purchase something? Fripperies that aren't needed.

I lost shed loads of weight after struggling for years to lose any but got a craving to buy stuff instead which was harder to beat than the eating. Just about got over that now with just the occasional "must have" feeling. It's great to be able to look at stuff for sale including crafts and artwork and not have the impulse to buy. Free at last!

    Congrats on weight loss!

PS a blog friend of mine lost about 60 pounds using premade delivered meals. She was told she must lose the weight before a hip replacement could be done. Now she is struggling to keep the pounds off. Sad. Hopeless.

  24. Well done, John. Headspace is the key - from a fellow pudgy one - and you have found the right space. I also find 2 meals a day is the answer. And no temptations in the house. Love your blog. It brings me a sense of peace even when the topics can be unsettling. Thank you.

    2. I didn't want to pontificate about early 20th century art movements, on your blog. A quick read online when you have some time will explain the differences in the two styles.

      Bauhaus: stern, linear, industrial, German

Art Deco: whimsical, sophisticated, fantasy moderne, French, then American.

  30. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
