Ha-ha! Spike was a comedy genius. Looking around the audience - Ian Hislop, Mel Smith, Michael Barrymore etc - the clip is also about the process of ageing.
I only know of Spike Milligan through stuff I've read about other UK comedy personalities, such as Peter Sellers and the Monty Python troupe. Nice to finally see the guy who inspired it all.
I saw this at the time. The Prince Charles quip is unforgettable.
ReplyDeleteLike Prince Charles, I grew up with him too. He's still making me laugh today!

ReplyDeleteYou're right, that was the best. He got into a bit of trouble about the Prince Charles comment, but not from HRH.
ReplyDeleteGreat British comedy will not be understood by the majority of your readers. If Prince Charles had been there he would have been laughing loudest.
ReplyDeletebrilliant clip, if i'm having a bad day i watch spike milligan's raspberry song, it's ridiculously silly and makes me crack up laughing every time
ReplyDeleteThe raspberry song is unbelievably funny. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in out family who thinks so.
DeleteOnly Spike could have got away with that. Love him.
ReplyDeleteLaughter is a great way to start off the morning.
ReplyDeleteWill we reach the point in life of saying the things we think?
never heard of this guy before but he sure is funny!
ReplyDeleteWhat an Excellent way to start my day! I have watched this twice lol
ReplyDeletePriceless!
British humour is big in Canada and that was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteGreat , but could someone tell me what Spike said at 2.09 mins, there were two short comments before and after the presenter said " that's my job" ?
ReplyDeleteYou are talking in cliches
DeletePriceless, indeed, and such an unforgettable wit! Ta for sharing this clip and for the laughs this morning.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Now I'm off to find more Spike Milligan clips!

ReplyDeleteI found British humor to be absolutely hysterical. Really. Sometimes it’s very culturally bound, but most times the attitude makes up for that.
ReplyDeleteLoL
Thanks for the laugh!
XoXo
Jonathan Ross kept it together pretty well.
ReplyDeleteHe was very good.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant
ReplyDeletePriceless!
