  7. That was beautiful. And as I was watching the sea of singers, I thought to myself that each one of them has a story to tell. Thanks for sharing the video. I always love the ones you share.

  17. I like the idea of the dickie-bowed men, First time I've seen that in a choir.

On a slightly sour note, for which I apologise, I've never been able to come to terms with seeing a conductor (or, as in this case what in my day we used to call a 'conductress') singing along with the choir. Andrew Davis is another major offender in this respect in my books. Exactly which of the four lines is s/he following? - just the top one, or does it keep changing? No, concentrate on the music and leave the singing to those who have the voices for it!

  18. Absolutely beautiful. Mr. Armstrong's voice was a happy growl --I could hear it in my memory behind the soniferous performance in this clip.

    1. Judging from the two lead singers and the conductor, I would guess it was The Weightwatchers' Choir. I couldn't see Mr Gray anywhere. He must have been hiding on the back row.

  23. What a beautiful piece, John, had me in tears. My Dad sang What a wonderful world acappella at my Gran's funeral, changing the 'he' to 'she'. It must have been so difficult for him. He passed away two Decembers ago, so this song means a huge amount to me. Thank you for posting :)

  27. Just to prove that not all tastes are the same and that no all Going Gently followers are fans of Cream of Mush, I can only say that if anybody were to carry on like this at my funeral (for which plans are under way) I should come back and haunt them!!

      I love him dearly

    3. Hello Alexa - that's so very kind of you and very much appreciated. Waspish I may be but I can spot genuine concern. You've quite made my day! But trust me - not even for cheap laughs will I be allowing that maudlin nonsense at my funeral.

Neha is a bit of robotic software code YP, which neither receives your comments nor cares about them. I'd not waste fingers on replying. Mind you an automatic robotic escort might be worth considering...

  30. Today’s our 48th wedding anniversary. A lovely way to start the day. How did you know?

  31. The word for a female conductor = conductor.

Conductors who sing along while conducting tend to be those who've spent many years teaching children to sing.

And always, always, this song makes me think of the one, the only, Satchmo.

  34. OK, since I wasn't allowed to pretend to watch it, I had to wait two days until I could watch at home on the big screen with the volume up. Wow. Goose bumps!
