I heard a rather heart warming story yesterday.
The Red Faced Welsh Farmer's son stopped his tractor for a chat just as the storm clouds fizzled into nothing over the village. Like his father, he's a straight talking country bloke but shows a softer , more articulate side when you get beyond the pleasantries.
The RFWF' S mentioned that he keeps far too many contacts in his mobile phone. He was sorting through them the other day and picked out a name of a person he hadn't spoken to for at least a couple of years.
On impulse he give the number a call , but the guy that answered was not his former mate, but was in fact a complete stranger from Birmingham.
Being a sociable soul, the RFWF'S started to chat to the unknown guy on the other end of the phone.and after a few minutes of friendliness he said his goodbyes but not before the stranger thanked him for calling.
" I had been having one of the worst days of my life" the stranger honestly confided
" your call's turned all that around..."
Kismet? Fate? Call it what you will
I thought it was all rather lovely.

It's especially nice to hear an unsolicited phone call have such a positive effect when usually (I find) they do anything but that.
ReplyDeletelike the Samaritans, only better...
ReplyDeleteour landline number is one digit different from the local doctor's surgery number and we get endless wrong-number calls around 8.30 in the morning.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how many new "friends" I've made by gently explaining I neither have their test results, am able to book an appointment or send someone QUICKLY.
My suggestion they replace the receiver and redial slowly as they're one digit out has always worked until last week when an elderly lady shakily asked me "I can replace the receiver and I can redial slowly, but I'm afraid I don't know how to put a digit out"
That's so lovely.
ReplyDeleteVery heart warming - and I'm so pleased to hear that neither party were selling PPI.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who seeks conversation with strangers, on the thinnest of pretexts, I'd call it luck. So touching when a tiny and very old man stretched up on his toes and kissed me on my cheek (face - before you say anything). Don't cry.

That's really nice. Oh that I was so kind to callers of wrong numbers.
ReplyDeletewhat a nice story!
ReplyDeleteAnother splendid blogpost from a splendid chap. Here's hoping you have another lovely day in your Welsh hideaway. It's funny how far a little human kindness can go. With kindness we could change the world. Ciao!
ReplyDeleteWhat Yorkshire Pudding said.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story John ...... I hope that he's going to ring him again and that they become friends !!
ReplyDeleteAlso, re your last post ..... I'm a Royalist too and who on earth would prefer the alternative ? They seem to be a lovely, level headed couple and bring much to the country. XXXX
Aaahhh that's so sweet.
ReplyDeleteA little shove in the right direction by the universe....another happy ending.
ReplyDeleteThis could be the start of something wonderful - calling people at random and being nice to them! Mind you, it will probably get you arrested these under anti-terrorism, stalking or some such legislation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm off with a big grin on my face to plant out 40 Kale plants ........
If we only had more of this kindness....what a wonderful world.
ReplyDeleteThat was a very sweet story.
ReplyDeleteBeyond lovely ! that was good karma for that guy & something he will never forget the rest of his life xx
ReplyDeleteReading this post and the replies has put a serene smile on my face!

A new trend - random calls of kindness! Sweet!
ReplyDeleteWrong numbers can be so annoying, so it's lovely to hear of such a nice outcome for one of them for a change of pace.
ReplyDeleteI work at a welding & fabrication shop and our number one number off the processor (butcher), therefore we get calls from people wanting to know if their meat is ready to be picked up yet all the time. Which is particularly funny because I always answer the phone "Good morning (or afternoon) Davis Welding". The name of the processor is Rackow's Family Sausage. So you'd think they caller would notice that I said Davis instead of Rackow, but they never do. I find it amusing and I even mess with them from time to time, which satisfies my warped sense of humor.
It sounds like you live near a fair amount of kind people, or maybe you simply attract them because you have such a kind heart too. Cheers.
Your RFWF's son must be quite a nice man...and very sociable! Imagine calling a number not called in a while and then engaging the stranger on the other end in conversation. I think the RFWF's son definitely qualifies as one who commits Random Acts Of Kindness! Bless him!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely meant to be.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Whatever it's called, it worked.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
It's a Wonderful Life.
ReplyDeleteLovely indeed John. Some people are very lonely and a call makes all the difference. A heart-warming story.
ReplyDeleteSpreading a little kindness your way John in reciprocation to yours. Great story and better that you shared it with us.
ReplyDeleteI'm ashamed to say that when I started reading this post, I thought you were going to say the guy had nicked the phone. So nice to be proved wrong. x
ReplyDeleteSometimes a chance encounter with a friendly stranger is all it takes to put things back into perspective. This is where I find dog walking so theraputic - it's amazing how often I hear someone's life story while our dogs are busy sniffing bums and chasing each other.

DeleteYou just about summed up everyone's comments
Maybe he saved his life... this planet is so full and some people are very alone.
ReplyDeletemakes me remember the book the Celestine prophecy. Maybe he had a message...
moving back to the Royals you were right on the name George Alexander Louis
They named him after your dog! They must have seen him in the side bar and be fans of the blog.
I was chuffed I guessed the name right!
DeleteThat is a great story, John. Makes for a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool, thanks for sharing it.
