I got to read that post in my browser and it was a fine one. What IS Winnie thinking when she ponders you? And I love that song. It's a good one for sure.
I hate to disavow you of this, but according to the IMDb website the song "Moon River" was written especially for Audrey Hepburn, since she had no training as a singer. The vocals were written to be sung in only one octave. She also sings in a slightly breathy manner, much like Marilyn Monroe did. And she's not always on key.
Thank you! In "My Fair Lady" Audrey's singing definitely didn't sound like Audrey. The only times she did was in songs where she did some "talk-singing" like parts of "Just You Wait, 'enry 'iggins."
That’s a very sweet and tender film clip. I never knew where the song came from and I've never seen the film; now I definitely want to. Thank John for being bedrock of wonderfully eccentric normality. With everything that is happening in the country and the world at the moment I guess we are living in "interesting times". Makes it even more refreshing to chill out here for a while.
I read that disappearing post and wrote a comment - but when I tried to post it, there was an error and your post had GONE! Hope it wasn't something I said . . . . .
Oh I did, thank you. I remember swaying along to this song played by Acker Bilk at a friend's wedding about 30 years ago and of course I love the film. I read your disappearing post and thought what a good man you are, as Winnie undoubtedly does too.
Have mixed feelings about that movie because it is a bit different from Truman Capote's excellent novella. But I love Audrey in it--I love her in everything she did whether the movie was good or not--and "Moon River" may be one of the most hummable songs ever written
Loved, loved, loved Audrey in that movie. I always bawl like a baby when she's reunited with "Cat."

what a wonderful song from beautiful audrey! have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is the song I sang at my Gr 8 graduation a hundred years ago. :)
ReplyDeleteSince in My Fair Lady Audrey Hepburn's singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon, I doubt that she did her own singing in Breakfast At Tiffany's.
