frankie and the weather

Sorry to overshadow my previous "royal" blog entry but on impulse I used my knackered old camera to "video" the depressing weather
I must have a bug as I have felt nauseous off and on all day and had a hope I could lie on the couch in front of the fire feeling sorry for myself; but the fencing on the Church wall needed repairing, eggs needed to be delivered and Frankie needed toilet and road training ( she pees just once a day and is incredibly nervous of traffic) , so we have had to brave the gales to get things done.

BUGGER the rain

Sometimes I do hate the country.

This irritation only happens if it has been consistently wet for days and the ground gets so saturated that walking, even the few hundred yards around the field becomes a real chore (especially when there is a hole in your wellies.
Rain in the countryside means :-

  • muddy paw prints on EVERYTHING including tablecloths, duvet, clothes and god forbid my best Laura Ashley floral print cushions
  • slugs through the cat flap
  • at least two or three embarrassing slips a week especially when cocking my leg over the Boris' fencing (doing the splits whilst holding a couple of buckets of water is no joke at nearly 50
  • Cleaning out the Ghost hens daily as their huge feet drag in the mud to their hen house like shovels and wet shavings mean only one thing......sore bottoms
Take no notice of those romantic photographs in Homes and Gardens, where the wet dogs are steaming nicely in front of the cottage fire and the muddy boots are all lined up neatly in the utility room......wet dogs mean only two things..........MUSTY DOG SMELL and A BLOODY FILTHY HOME!
After half an hour of scrubbing the kitchen floor YET AGAIN, its time to "fabrese" the cottage from top to bottom, then the dettol has to be dug out yet again so that the kitchen tops can be disinfected free of cat prints (one or two can even be seen on top of the oranges pilled up on the kitchen table)

George steaming nicely in the living room
No! rain in the country is Bloody shitty!!!!!
Rainy days when we lived in the city always meant hiding away in the warmth and the dry. It meant a trip to  Weston Park Museum or the shiny Millennium Galleries.and if the weather was atrocious you could always lose yourself in the aseptic Meadowhall shopping centre or John Lewis' in town.(their cafe staff were always lovely)
Even when it was bucketing down....you could always keep dry and clean and cossetted away from the elements......whereas here........constant bad weather means trenchfoot, damp underpants and chilblains.

see everything in the county isn't always like watching Little House on the Prairie!
Blah!
Working nights again tonight so will miss my weekly fix of Mr Cardle on x factor............bugger!

Here comes the rain again...........

....falling on my head like a memory......

We have had experienced heavy showers throughout the night!
This morning it is misty and noticeably colder and the air is heavy with fresh moisture It also feels that the allotment, garden and pasture land have all taken in a collective "gulp" of rejuvenating water, which I know will change the scorched yellow of the field to a more normal and comforting green.
At least I wont have to hump a dozen buckets of water across the field now to water the far vegetable patches.
I need to clean out the hen houses today and will lay rat poison down carefully beneath each one.. I have seen a couple of rats lurking around when I have been on fox watch, so will nip any problem that may develop in the bud.

The dogs are incredibly patient when I am pottering around doing household jobs. Meg will take up her usual position on the bedroom window seat, watching out for any interesting movements and spending her time smearing dog snot on the window.
Perhaps it is the slightly damp feel to the start of the day, but I will forgo my second cup of coffee of the day and will now take the lot down to the beach for a run

At Last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The weather has changed. This morning driving rain and gale force winds have shocked the animals as they emerged from the small village of houses on the field. And after eating they have bolted for cover and dry shelter, all with the exception of Jessop(above), who stood on the stone Church wall clucking loudly into the wind.
I have tons of maintenance jobs to do, but just can't get on to do them until the ground thaws a little more, and so, I am still feeling a little stir crazy!
It is so easy to get into the habit of doing nothing, when you are grounded, so today I have kicked myself up the arse and have finally changed my pajama bottoms- which have been "hidden" under my work pants for the last 2 days! (an extra layer is vital in this weather! -but having tartan pj's poking out of a pant leg is not a cool look in the post office!!!)
This morning I have made lasagna, filled all of the water butts, and have caught up with some financial matters, This afternoon I have to wait in for the Berlingo's windscreen to be repaired, so I have earmarked the shed for a clear out, the paths need clearing and William is in dire need for a bath.

I am also having withdrawal symptoms from an enforced lack of cinema trips, so I think I will drag chris out on Sunday to see Up in the Air with the urbane Mr Clooney. Tomorrow night we are off to see Carmen (a live production at the Scala) and tonight I will pop down to see Hazel and have a quick chat over a bottle of wine... so socially things are looking up.

I want to stick a middle finger up at the snow.....now that it has almost gone...my life can get back to some normality
