In my small flock there was no place for three feisty roosters, so they had to go, and I sent them off without a thought for her feelings, but she mourned and mourned for them and died soon after. I think maybe these two have a bond like that too. I'm glad you took them in. Mum had one chook (Aussie for chicken) when she was a child who was called 'Slow Walker' as she was lame all her life. She still did fine. T.L. One of them is desperate to lay and always picks a time when one or more of the older hens want to lay, oh the cacophany!<br />So, the newer hen is put in the old coop with food and water in the hope she will lay in the nest box there. I had thought she might be egg-bound as she was passing milky fluid. Now I know she has laid, small eggs spasmodically but, has not laid for a about 5 days. So I examined her yesterday, she has good tissue coverage over her breastbone, can feel her 'hips' ok,is eating and drinkinf well, but, passing faeces and this milky stuff which, I assume is the undeveloped eggs? I did the vaseline and digit examination and all was fine, no prolapse, blood oe other lumps and bumps. I gave her about 10mls of cod liver oil too. Today she is settled in the old coop and not traipsing about, so hopefully she will lay ok. What else would you suggest if she doesn't lay?Sandies' Patchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11022362234675324965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20303812.post-41633661722732542692015-05-20T09:52:30.357+00:002015-05-20T09:52:30.357+00:00Ah well, that would be telling. But I have a (very) tenuous connection to Mad Max (the original) as one of the stunt-men (who had one line and was then killed off) was a house-mate back in the day. I dined out on that many a time.
