Weaver

Weaver has gone missing
I’m not too sure , but I think she’s been gone at least two days if not three.
I’ve had a niggling doubt for 24 hours but with two cats that are identical in size, colour
and tail length, and one with a habit of hiding away in her own bedroom, it wasn’t easy to work out ,
but now I’m sure.
I’ve searched the surrounding streets, church and lane and have put a plea on the village
Facebook site

  1. Oh, I hope she turns up safe and sound. One of my cats went missing for 6 days, then turned up early one morning. I think he'd been spooked by something, ran off and got lost and then finally found his way back to familiar territory. Hope that's what's happened with Weaver. xx

  2. Oh No! If she’s got stuck somewhere, she’s unlikely to cooperate with a stranger calling her, nor quickly come out of a hiding place. Poor girl, she’ll be upset. As are you … and us. XX

  3. So very sad to hear this. Hope she's not trapped in a shed/outbuilding without water. How has Bun been acting since Weaver's disappearance?

You frequently said that you hated Weaver for her behavior and when she pissed outside the litter box. Could this be fate's way of showing you what your behaviors feel like to her?

  10. So sorry Weaver is missing and I know that worry. Hope Weaver arrives home just hungry from being elsewhere for too long. As others have wondered, is she have a microchip?

    Big hugs!

  12. Horrible times when this happens. It's the not knowing part which gets under the skin, always with the fear that when and if found out, it's going to be something dreadful. We're all so much hoping it doesn't come to that.

  13. Hope she turns up soon. Sometimes cats decide they want to move away.

  19. Do hope she turns up back home again soon, John (((hugs))) I know how worrying it is when one of your cats goes AWOL. When that happened to our cat Tim, his brother Barney, unlike Bun, became very much perkier!

Hope the weave turns up. We did have a cat who would disappear for days at a time. I then discovered he had been "adopted" by a family further up the road. They thought he was a stray. He alternated between both houses for a while and then went to live with his new family for good.

This is a real possibility. Wandering cats often get unofficially adopted by well meaning people. Gigi

  28. I had a cat go missing for three weeks. Turned out he was upstairs, inadvertently shut in a never-used bedroom.
    He was fine.
I bet Weaver's just on walk-about. He'll most likely return with tales to tell.

I'm sure you have checked all the nooks and crannies around your house and your good neighbors are on the lookout. Put her food outside. Sending good thoughts. Jen

  30. Some people keep their cats very safe by making sure that they stay indoors like prisoners but cats need their freedom in my opinion and where you live looks pretty cat friendly. I hope she comes back but of course she might not. I knew the agony of that with our old cat Boris ( not named after the fat Tory scarecrow - he came along later).

Tends to be a North American thing keeping cats indoors. Declawing cats (think removing the first digit of your finger) is also very common - it is only illegal in six states and DC

    2. My sister-in-law kept two cats in her flat in Islington and they never went out. Islington is in North London, not North America. By the way Traveller, thank you for the link you left me very recently but that particular blog is one that I avoid like The Plague. I am sure you meant well.

Cat enrichment for indoor means creating an environment for your feline friend (especially if disabled or special needs) where they have plenty of opportunities to express their natural instincts and behaviors in appropriate ways. Meeting your cat's mental and emotional needs will help them lead a happier, healthier life and have fewer behavior issues. And it can allow you to forge a stronger bond with your cat.

Interactive toys help strengthen the bond between you and your cat. Self-play toys are those that your cat can play with on their own.

Toys that encourage chasing and pouncing are typically the most enjoyable for cats.

Depending on how much space in each room, at least two cat trees are essential with multi-platform cat trees of various heights, styles and textures with cosy nooks for safe sleeping.

It doesn’t have to be expensive – cardboard boxes of differing sizes make a great fort for cats to play in with some toys.

Owning a cat is not the same as owning a dog. Cats are naturally curious and love high places to rest, depending on the breed, need lots of mental and emotional stimulation.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, forward-thinking cat rescues are increasingly seeking homes with secure enclosed gardens and catios, with some refusing adoption if these are not in, or until in place.

As Traveller said, it is a North American thing

Not just a N. American "thing". In recent years it's become very common in the UK, Europe, Aus and NZ. Many online cat company are catering to indoor cat enrichment.

Firstly, the UK is in Europe.
secondly Cats Protection and Blue Cross generally support outdoor access stating it is essential to support their well being

It is the US where the majority of cats are indoors only…and about a quarter of them are declawed

As an experienced cat rescuer and fosterer of 40 years, microchips only help AFTER a cat is lost or injured, which is why forward-thinking rescues in the UK are mandating secure custome built enclosed gardens or catios allows cat to experience fresh air and stimulation while protecting them from traffic and territorial disputes. Or invest in reliable GPS collars to prevent free-roaming entirely. Hope she is found soon.

I am happy to read this and wish this would be available in our area as I am allergic to cats and here in the USA people tend to let their cats do their own thing. Sorry John but this is a problem. Maybe the UK is different but I can't believe that no one there has a cat allergy.

  35. My mother's cat went missing for at least 18 hrs. after my parents had a dinner for friends. They lived in an area where coyotes were known to be in the hills. My mother was frantic. She went to put away the dishes from the dinner in a low credenza and when she opened the cupboard door, there her cat was, blinking in the light as if to say "What?"
