The heat is rising
It’s not as awful as in France and Germany , as the German reported 36 degrees and high humidity today, but it’s uncomfortable .
My cottage is southfacing, so at times like these it’s important to keep downstairs where the stone walls are thickest. The Welsh with their thick coats are quiet in their chairs and black cats absorb the heat, so they have hidden away , probably in the garden under hydrangea or the holly
Was it only a year ago that I was sat in Madrid sipping gin on Plaza Major ? Celebrating my qualification

Sitting here, in shorts and a sleeveless top, fan on, doors wide open, and still sweating! I hope it's cooler for you tonight. No fun having to work in this heat and humidity.

ReplyDeleteI don't know how Europe at large can do without AC. I live in Illinois, where in summer, it gets hot and humid and STAYS hot and humid for months, well into the high 90's and oftentimes 100 and above, so AC is life-saving. LOVE the poster, so charming and inviting. A year already since your certification, oh my, how time does speed right on!

ReplyDeleteAfter having one hot humid day in early June here in Toronto, I broke down and had a heat pump/air conditioner mini split installed. I have only used it for one day so far as we have been having what I call perfect summer days. The only time I have done 40 degrees was in India and it was awful. Keep cool, John. The upcoming garden party sounds like it will be fun and a good money maker for the Hall. Gigi
ReplyDeleteHere in Virginia I always lived in an unairconditioned house until 12 or so years ago, which means that there were many many upper 90s/low100s days every summer, with very high humidity. One difference is that houses were designed for cross breezes, shade on windows, etc, which are less needed and thus less common. Since we finally got our old house (not by your standards!) air conditioned it's a great thing to fall back on! Love the poster, I'd be there for the homemade cakes and trombola (which I had to look up) for sure!

DeleteA brilliant poster for sure. If the name of the house is The Rectory, the 'T' of 'the' should be capitalised, if it is just a local nickname for a house with another name, then both words should be lowercase.

DeleteThere is a rectory in Shotton, Deeside which has the similar windows painted on. I understand it is something to do with an ancient window tax. Like the colourful poster, very eye catching.

DeleteMy utterly daft black cat heads straight out into it and finds a spot of shade to snooze it. It's cooler indoors, but he insists on going out. I gather that felines can suffer from heat stroke, but he apparently knows better! Arilx
