All the neighbour's lights have come on .
Walked bulldog in bare feet for last walk of the night. Stepped on frog
Frog screamed
I screamed even louder
Bulldog then swallowed frog
I then screamed again
Off to lie down in a darkened room
This still makes me feel slightly sick and vaguely hysterical all at the same time
I do so miss Winnie
A remarkable event and blog to revisit. Strange the little memories that can be triggered. Having hard feet in the garden is asking for trouble. I vividly remember being out in the garden with dog at 2am and stepping on a large cat orange slug. Oooh, the shock the crunching sound and the memory of it! You just brought that memory right back. Oh, and trying to get my foot clean again. Thanks for that! ;)
ReplyDeleteMade me feel slightly sick and vaguely hysterical too, and I wasn't there! Aah, Winnie, a real character. xx
ReplyDeleteWinnie remains unforgettable. Such a character she was!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading about Winnie. Such a strong character and made life so interesting!
ReplyDeleteI think Winnie is now part of you John-with you without you seeing her-I don't believe the love we share leaves-Some days I feel my top dog close-I still cry at the thought of him most days-in fact I am now and feel the emotion when I read of you missing your Winnie so-we don't understand it but she may be with you anyway talk to her and see(afer 3 years there still is a strange almost tunnel from the other side of the small window where my doggy sat up to the sky only visible on cctv screen-I may be crazy but I think its his way back home where he belongs on his sofa next to me)xx
ReplyDeleteI am crying, too. I miss my Bernie so much. It will soon be a year, we go to interview new puppies next week. Bittersweet.
DeleteIt's heartbreaking isn't it Joyce-it's been 3 years for me-I had 2 others plus another 2 since which helps but the longing for my top dog is painful still-your heart has room to love Bernie and another little one too xx
DeleteArgh! Poor frog! Turbo isn't interested in frogs...fortunately!
ReplyDeleteAs Eric Idle said, they're not crunchy if you take the bones out.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Things like this sound funnier when written in short sharp sentences. Winnie certainly added to our joy in life.
ReplyDeleteWho has the more grey mutton chops? I miss Winnie.
ReplyDeleteFrogs make the most awful sound …. When our cats brought them in, I thought it was a baby crying ! XXXX
ReplyDeleteI miss hearing of Winnie's exploits too. We never forget our dogs - I miss Tess every day - sometimes when I am sitting alone in the evening I hear a creak and immediztely to where her basket was - and it isn't there.
ReplyDeleteI think we all miss Winnie, that beautiful girl...Hugs John
ReplyDeleteWe miss her, because she brought joy into our lives, and you made her life so joyful
ReplyDeleteMy nephew and his young lady have named their baby daughter Winnie but she only has two feet and she wears nappies to catch the poo-poo.
ReplyDeletedoes winnie now have frog farts?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school, I spent a month at my sister's, they had a new baby and a 3 Y.O. Barefoot, I volunteered to carry the groceries in from the car, and stepped on a baby mouse that must have fallen from the nest. Darkened room, is right!

OMG ... sorry, but that is hilarious ... you screaming, the frog screaming and it seems bulldogs will eat anything! LOL I suspect Winnie did not start croaking upon ingesting since it would seem [by your description] she swallowed it WHOLE! OMG
ReplyDeletePoor Winnie ... never knew her that well, but realize she was quite the card and character!!
Oh, I remember this post, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI do miss Winnie too. She was #1.
ReplyDeleteForgot to wear your crocs! You have so many nice dog family memories. They have really added to your life (and you to theirs, of course)!
ReplyDeletedreadful behaviour letting your dog kill a defenceless animal
ReplyDeleteand you call yourself a lover of animals
DeleteIt happened in darkness and would have startled Winnie before John was aware of what was happening so no"letting"as you wrongly state
DeleteOMG anonymous please will you Foxtrot Oscar you never have anything nice to say. Go troll elsewhere 😡😠🤬
DeleteTake no notice lee lee xx
DeleteI remember this post and had to shudder again at the mental images it produced then and now. Shudder!
ReplyDeleteI miss Winnie, too.
Big hugs!
I remember this well. Poor frog.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'd say the frog had the most to lose in that scenario!
ReplyDeleteWe all miss Winnie.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I sure miss her too. 😢
ReplyDeleteShe is such a part of you, John.
ReplyDeleteWinnie was one very special bulldog and you had a wonderful relationship with her. No wonder you miss her.
ReplyDeleteThat was a particularly fine piece of writing John. Not one unnecessary word. How’s the book progressing?
Slowly
DeleteNearly sixty years ago at guide camp I was washing up and thought that a piece of soap was blocking the washing up liquid nozzle. I pulled it out only to realise a fraction too late that it was a tiny green caterpillar. I still feel ill (and guilty) when I think of it!
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
