Vets

The twelve year old vet examined Winnie in the car park.
He agreed that the sudden lump on the old girl's neck looked nasty, especially as she has lost weight recently . He was also surprised when she gave him a wet kiss as he knelt in front of her.
" She's a friendly old gal" he said in an broad Irish brogue
" You will never know!" I told him
Winnie went off with him without looking back.
I had already agreed that we were not doing any heroics if things looked bleak.

I've not long picked her up
No cancer this time
Antibiotics and cream and a vague worry of future deterioration is a bonus as she is already on borrowed time and making the most of the necessary trip over the Welsh Hills we stopped briefly at an isolated  beauty spot layby and shared a shop bought sandwich

Our sides touching firmly like only old buddies can do.

  3. well, John, turned out to be a good day. worry about growths is always a concern. our dog, Lily, who is a rescue pooch had terrible skin problems prior to our adoption. she continuously has new bumps and lumps. always worrisome. Myself, am waiting for a telecall w/ my surgeon about scheduling a biopsy for a lump...however, debating as to whether to risk going in to have one at this time. oh well, things can always be worse. thanks for the good news this morning. hugs.

  5. Wonderful news. I was almost afraid to read the post. I fully understand the heartbreak involved when our pets get to that age and difficult decisions have to be made. Thankfully Winnie has been granted some more time. XXXXX

  11. I imagine you stomach had flipped when you found that lump. Glad it is nothing nasty and by gum, I bet you both enjoyed that sarnie and just "being out" . . .

I note it's not just policemen that look young these days . . .

  12. "Our sides touching firmly like only old buddies can do" If your going to get me teary eyed, you better be prepared to hug me then!!! That's a beautiful sentiment.

Buster too a couple weeks ago had one of those pop up on his paw. It too not a worry and was removed. My vet said a older dog thing, like our moles and such, I suppose.

  13. 'Goodish'news about the beautiful Winnie methinks. That little face, she's gorgeous and I'm so pleased she has time for more outings, walks and shared sandwiches. I'm missing the Welsh hills an awful lot and my brother and sister-in-law who live amongst them and who are self-isolating for 12 weeks. Thanks for the encouraging remark, much appreciated.

Good news! about the old lady, in what feels like a sea of misery, (sorry having a wobble today)
Last time l worried about Winnie l was having a house valuation conducted by a 12 year old estate agent who was wearing a suit 2 sizes too small for him topped off with brown pointy lace up shoes, er fashion l think.
Anyway, how time flies, so glad she is okay and back home

  30. A reprieve - thank goodness. Animals just live, live, live until they die, no worries. In a way it would be easier to be like that, wouldn't it, taking each day as it comes. I'm so glad Winnie is home again and this was not *the* day.

  31. Glad to hear this is treatable. It sounds like she liked that young doctor too. But oh how special to share a treat with her Dad on the trip home.

  32. Hi John, please do let this comment stand for a minute - even if it's mine - just long enough for Winnie to read. And maybe to show your readers another dimension. It's meant sincerely. No bull, as it were.

I think bulldogs like Winnie amazingly ugly. Truly ugly. However, and it's a big HOWEVER, Winnie's story shows that even the ugly can be loved. That's humbling. A comfort to all those humans who are ugly, maybe even revolting to some. Insert smiley.

Anyway, good for you, Winnie: You are tenacious. You won't give up. That's the one thing you and I have in common. Hope you won't succumb to the inevitable any time soon. In the meantime I'll lend you my best hanky to wipe good old John's tears.

    Hang on in there,
    U

No surgery now but, , , We adore them and they love us back and then they make us cry.
Winnie is so lovely and what a character. The vet wore a uniform right ? and we know she like them, So happy she got to spend some one on one time with you. I just adore her and her squishy face.

  50. Hi everyone, I saw comments from people who had already got their loan from
Anderson Loan Finance. Honestly I thought it was a scam, and then I decided
to make a request based on their recommendations. A few days ago, I
confirmed in my personal bank account amounting to 12,000 $ , which I
requested for business. This is really good news and I am so happy that I
advise all those who need a real loan and who are sure to reimburse to
apply through their email (text or call) +1 315-329-6320 There are sincere
    and honest loan lenders!

They are able to lend you a loan.

I'm elated to find out that sweet Winnie's lump is benign and hope the meds. heal the area quickly and help Winnie feel good for as long as possible.

What love and trust are in Winnie's eyes. Was the photo taken before or after the shared sandwich? If before, she might be asking for a special treat and if after, she might be asking for more!

You're a good doggie daddy, John.

    Hugs!

  56. oh so glad for the news on dear Winnie- i know how you must have felt. My sweet Beatrix (basset hound) had 2 lumps removed last month and we were delivered the bad news of 2 different types of cancer. We are not telling her as she has recovered from the surgery and is acting like her old self - we decided we will love her for all of her days but not put her through any more surgeries. stay well John, i so enjoy your blog posts.

Thank you for being empathic and vulnerable in this very public space. You are amazing and I admire you so much. I love your puppy dog family too, they are all adorable. John, thank you for your humility and for the work you do. My mother is in a nursing home and I wish she had someone like you to take care of her and make her smile. She would love you so much, just like her very own sons. Bless you John. and Thank You! With Love.
