90 Minute Window

I saw Affable despot Jason this morning as I was walking through the village, he yelled from his car window "How's your kidney?"
I should have yelled back "My Kidney is fine...its my bladder that's buggered!"
but his sympathy was near enough.
It was nice to be asked.
My "affliction" remains  and is becoming somewhat tiresome. The antibiotics for sure are kicking in, but (so much as it irritates me) Ursula was right, Urine infections in men can be so much more troublesome than those in women......(now let that comment put the cat  amongst the pigeons!)
I am still plagued with frequency, which means that I have to have to be within spitting distance of a loo every hour and a half or so.
To some this would be a minor irritation.
but loos can be few and far between in rural North Wales.

stuck in a traffic jam outside the village today ( with my legs firmly crossed)

I am telling you all this as part as a bit local colour, (oh and to elicit some small scale sympathy from sweet natured blog readers)  but the whole sad thing has been a sobering experience as so many people have to suffer so much greater and life affecting ills than mine and do so without comment, fanfare or complaint.
I am complaining as I am usually fit and well.....
I am complaining as I have been up five times overnight
and I am complaining as I feel a bit sorry for myself.
and there I should shut the fuck up
I have a dear friend who is undergoing the nauseating treatment for cancer. I have another who has a chronic condition which means 24/7 fatigue.
I also suspect that given the demographic of my followers a few hundred people out there are presently fighting their own battles against ailments and conditions which cause them pain, upset and sadness, and do so behind closed doors, unknown to the sympathy of the many.
To them I say
"I'm sorry"

  2. Everyone is allowed to feel sorry for themselves - why the hell not? It's all that stiff upper lip baloney that gets people into trouble. And it's not like you are a complainer, because you are not. Go ahead a whinge. I hope you feel better soon.

  3. I think you are perfectly entitled to have a moan and a complain if you want to. It doesn't negate anyone else's issues and might help you. And bladder infections are horrible anyway!

  5. No matter how hard someone else has it, you still need a little sympathy. An infection is painful and (in your case) urgent. (I would suggest always having an emergency mason jar with lid, especially in the car.) Hope you're feeling better soon.

  7. We ... each and every one of us ... have the same right .. to whine and complain and be babies if we want to be when we don't feel good.
And having that right, means we should always be sympathetic to someone else with the same right .
What a crappy world it would be if we had to actually suffer in silence.
And you give all the mama's in your readership the opportunity to send you home recipes of Get Well medicines :)

  9. I had an awful urinary infection last year on a cycling holiday in the Loire Valley. Mind you the blooming idea was mine to celebrate a special birthday, I didn’t factor in we hadn’t been on bikes for thirty odd years, my saddle lay in wait for me to settle my bits on it and cycle carefree into the sunset. Two days in, it decided ‘Now is the time!’ I was in bloody agony, weeing blood the colour of a good vintage red. John, you have my sympathy.

  12. John I have a fairly severe but managed chronic illness. If it were not currently being managed with IV meds it could be life threatening. Fine, I live with it. But I think the painful immediacy of a sudden illness is different and in its way---not ''worse''perhaps but worthy of note, care, sympathy. Illness is not a competitive sport, we all suffer in our own ways. Feel better soon!

  13. I live with a painful condition which affects how I live my life, but, I am not ill, and I am grateful for that every day. An infection is an illness, can spread, and must be treated seriously. You have my sympathy.

  14. You have to be within spitting distance of a loo? Do you mean saliva spitting, watermelon seed or cherry stone? There are different distances for each. Mind you if you spat from the top of The Empire State Building the spitting distance would be 1453 feet.

  17. No need to apologise, we all need to moan occasionally and it's about how you're feeling, not whether it's life-threatening. Be kind to yourself, lots of drinks of course (no alcohol or coffee), keep warm and snuggle up with a warm dog. I'm glad to hear the update, was a bit worried when you didn't say much more after the A&E visit.

I don't think it's a man/woman issue, anyone who has had cystitis will know what you're going through, and anyone who has never had it is bloody lucky! I hope the meds are working now.

  23. As another commenter has said, our health issues are not negated by those of others. There is room for sympathy all around. And I'm thinking that acute and chronic illness are two different beasts. They are both bad in their own unique ways. But each can give us empathy toward the other.

I concur with the Prof about the cranberry juice. It 'may' help prevention but it is useless once an infection has got hold. UTI's can be very resistant to antibiotics, don't hesitate to ask for another if you feel the first one is not working.

  32. Well, I've always said that someone else's cancer isn't going to cure my broken leg, but yes, perspective can be valuable.

  34. You should move to Japan. No need for a loo. Need to go, not matter where, you just go. A Family walking to or from church on a Sunday morning all stepped off the sidewalk and squatted in the melon field behind us. A driver stopped his truck in the middle of the road, jumped out to relieve himself along the fence. Zipped back up, ran back to truck and waved a thank you to the backed up traffic! That was just in one day of looking out the window!

  55. I have had them all my life and remember vaguely as a wee child crawling around on a hospital table being prepared for anesthesia to be sure there was nothing seriously wrong. There was not. But the infections went on for years. I hate cranberry juice but I did stop drinking tea and coffee whenever I felt that burning pain coming back .. no wine either .. no hot spices. And drinking all the water you can tolerate .. I hate to drink water but I drink bottled water/Perrier or something with a bit of fizz to get it down.
The antibiotics should work fast but the bladder relaxers are the Godsend .. just don't over do them .. and wee on yourself :)
