    1. We don't have anything like them here in my area [NY].

    2. Nor do we (Florida). Of, we don't have villages, either!

    3. Of course Florida has villages. The Villages. Which are not exactly villages, but still.

    4. Closest thing to this in the States might be various events at local churches. They call them Bazaars, or Carnivals. They raise money for the church. I like the community event idea better!

  21. Seeing your photo takes me back to when I was a small boy in my Surrey village. I always entered a 'Garden in a Saucer', a 'Jam Jar of Wild Flowers', and some vegs I'd grown. I don't think I ever won anything, but we children were all given encouraging certificates.

  37. Everything is so neat. I love the bunting. Well done. The only thing that might come close are the floral competitions at County fairs, and ours is going on right now. Oh, and we have the Boonville Apple Show and sheepdog trials in September with a lovely floral exhibit.

  38. What fun. I hope your event is a great success. I think the only thing that comes close to a community event like this is our County Fair. They have exhibits of all sorts with awards handed out before the public gets to nose around and look at everything displayed. There are entries for food, drink, artwork. handicrafts of all sorts. It is a little less personal as the county is huge, but it still has a "hometown" feeling.
