My Slightly Surreal Life!

Sometimes life in Trelawnyd can be somewhat surreal
Yesterday was a case in point.
At 3pm I walked past the village Hall
All I could hear was " Elvis"  singing Viva Las Vegas to  rapturous applause!
The Friendship Group is 35 years old!
They organised a buffet and an Elvis Impersonator !
How wonderful was that?

Ps Auntie Glas's house

I note the the kitchen table is still there, i am in two minds to ask her daughter to sell it to me

  2. An Elvis impersonator? I hope he didn't die on the toilet after choking on his own vomit.

  3. 40 years next month, I remember where I was when I heard he was dead.

  4. Why haven't you joined?

  5. Damn! I'd come over there if you were going to be the impersonator for next year's buffet!

  6. Unrelated to this post, but I just had a look online at Auntie Gladys' property for sale. It looks like there is a gorgeous collection of blue and white china. It's an interesting property and very well kept.

    2. The rocking chair looks very comfortable too. I am sure her daughter would be very happy for the table and chairs to go to someone who had such close ties with Aunty Glad

    4. I've just tried to access this website, and it's not the same house from your descriptions. The one shown is empty and there is a note to say it's been withdrawn !

I'm no expert on the subject, but why does Elvis appear to be dancing with a blow-up doll?

  9. How fantastic is that, weren't you tempted to pop in?

  10. The Indian restaurant in our village organised for " Indian Elvis " to sing during Food week. I was selling raffle tickets & giggled all evening as off stage Elvis had a Wolverhampton accent !

  11. What a wonderful house but a bit sad that it is on the market. My love to Aunty Glad because my 96 year old mum is very similar to Aunty Glad ie macular degeneration, old age arthritis, a bit scatty to say the least but still hanging on by the absolute skin of her teeth to living in her own house.

  12. I once met Ann-Margret...

    1. She was surprisingly intense now that she'd gone all serious and was making a British period film with Julie Christie and Glenda Jackson, in which I have to say she was rather good. The Return of the Soldier.

    2. Do you miss your showbiz days?

    3. Not at all. It was fun while it lasted but it's firmly in the past now and it's only when I see a picture of somebody like Ann-Margret that I realise how lucky I was once to have met her.

  13. There is a large Indian restaurant here (run by Muslim Bangladeshis) which has regular Elvis nights with guest impersonators. Very incongruous.

  15. That must have been great fun, hearing old school songs and having an impersonator.

  16. I really hope you get the table! That would be such a lovely thing to have. Can you imagine all the conversations that took part around it - including all the flower show gossip! :)

I just sold a house for a little more than that ... If I was not alone, I would be SO tempted :)
I hope you get the table .. memories living on ..

  18. Not sure about the table personally. Most of your regulars seem to think it a good idea - me, I think your memories of Aunt Glad go deeper than that John.

    1. The table reminds me of the flower show meetings..everyone sat round with tea and scones

    2. I didn't think the table was particularly exciting either. Probably why it is still in the house.

      Delete
    3. It does not have to be exciting. The memories that go with it are what counts not the shallowness of what it looks like. I would have it in a heartbeat if it was of sentimental value to me.

    4. John is not shallow and nor am I.

    5. I wasn't referring to John

  19. Things/objects don't have to be exciting to be appealing, especially having good memories attached. I kept a rusty old wind chime that was not pretty and no one wanted to touch it, it was so rusty .. but it had been outside the window of every home my grandmother had lived in .. it is rusty and not pretty at all but I treasure it for who it belonged to and what memories come with it.

  20. It would be nice for you to have the table as a permanent memento of Auntie Glad. She would have enjoyed Elvis.

  21. Ask her about the table before it's too late

  24. Thank you for the link . . .
Id'd say YES to the table/chairs!

  25. I used to be a pretty good Elvis impersonator when I was 13! It was so much fun singing in his overdone/campy style. You should definitely have that table if it brings back great memories.

    ReplyDelete
  26. THAT would be surreal.

And, yes, I think it would be incredible to have Aunty Glad's kitchen table. What magic would come with it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think Auntie Glad's daughter wouldn't mind you asking about the table. I'd go for it. I love her house, too! Something that big in London would be more than a million quid, I'm sure.

  30. There was an Elvis-a-like belting out all his hits in the nursing home across the road here yesterday afternoon, too. I wonder if all the Elvises get together every so often and compare notes?

Hello, btw. Or should I say: Greetings from Not-Quite-Northest-of-Norfolk! You have a wonderful selection of photographs in your sidebar. Really quite lovely.
