" A Herd Of Baby Elephants"

What is your best bit of the day?
I'll tell you mine in a moment, not that it shall be of any great surprise to most Going Gently readers, but then it will make a gentle anecdote to gently start of the day!
I was in Tesco's this morning buying a giant sized bottle of Prosecco- like you do!
Ok I must have looked like a slightly upmarket dipso preparing for a mornings tipple in front of Jeremy Kyle, especially as it was one minute past 7 (am ) but I did have a good reason. Winnie goes to her Babysitters for a day or so as I am off to London with to meet the Prof and another trip to the ballet ( my Christmas gift to him) and so the keep the babysitter onside Prosecco gifts will be offered.......anyhow as usual, I am digressing! ( I also forgot to add that I lost a further 7.5lbs at fat club last night!)

My Best Bit Of The Day ( now I do sound like a contestant on Just A Minute) is the few seconds " happy realisation " that I have returned to bed after 5.30 am morning walks.
With the Prof happily sitting over his boiled egg and iPad news at the kitchen table, the dogs, Albert and I amble  back in after a dozen wee stops all bleary eyed and still sleepy. Everything is serene to the point of coma until we all get to the stairs and the mad scramble for the best bed position starts.
" For Fuck's sake, it's a herd of baby elephants!" Is the Prof's usual comment as we thunder up the stairs and in a mixture of brute strength, the lifting of the oldies and juvenile jumping everyone ( four dogs, one cat and I) have managed to get onto the double bed within seconds.
It reminds me of one of those 1970 Guinness Book of Records pranks where 30 students cram themselves into a phone box! anyhow I digress again!

By 5.45am we are all asleep

This is my best bit of the day!
What's yours?

  1. Doing what I just told you on my blog. No hurry, relaxed 30 minutes on my own watching other people in a rush.

  2. It is now 1:15 AM and I am about to make some rice pudding like no other. I could not sleep because of a miserable headache so the prescription is to have some warm rice pudding with plenty of fresh raspberries and then go back to bed. Getting old has its priveleges you will discover. McKenzie and Aliah looked at me like I am crazy and went back to sleep. Have a wonderful time in London.

  4. My best bit will be on my blog shortly. And it's sad to admit that it's my best bit, since it's not even a very good bit and obviously could never hold a candle even to your worst bit of the day. I'm imagining you having your own pee stop among all the others and then scrambling up the stairs in competition with everyone else.

  5. I think mine is sinking into bed after a busy day, a sweet kiss from my hubby and one dear little dog snuggled into my back and the other happily in her own bed on hubbys side of the bed..bliss!!

  9. I love when I am the first one up, the house is quiet, I have coffee at the ready and I'm reading blogs. Even better if it is the weekend and I don't have to get ready to go to work. -Jenn

  11. Mister Irish is sleeping . . .
Our twelve year old, nine pounds of fluff is curled next to him and daylight is just beginning to shine through . . . I look over, reach out and rub her ears . . . she stretches a bit and says . . . more . . . best part of each day.

  12. Sinking into soft pillows and blankets, surrounded by sleeping cats, having had a happy day. Most people don't really appreciate happiness, it is sort of taken for granted.
The really good part is sleeping all night without having to 1 - get up 2- resettle irritated old cats bothered by irritating young cats 3- waking up to the rattling purr of said old cat.
My requirements for a good day have changed greatly lol

  13. You are losing that extra weight very quickly. I am hoping that you show us a before and after picture when you meet your goal.

The best part of my day is at the end when I take my bra off and live free.

  24. Sitting outside at twilight. That quiet time between the noisy day and the rush of evening.
I sit outside and watch the clouds float by, the birds putting on an acrobatic flying show. Most of all the few seconds of quiet with the gud dugs sitting outside with me and enjoying this day..

    cheers, parsnip

  27. Sitting with a coffee first thing on a Monday morning - Retirement = no rushing to get out to work, no doing a 25 mile commute through junction 10 of the M6, no taking the crap from fellow colleagues and even worse the customers and most of all not taking the crap and sheer stupidity from the bosses! .....even nearly 3 years on, I relish and enjoy every Monday morning with just a thought of what I'm going to do for the rest of the week xxx

Favourite bit of the day? Any time when everything's quiet - no background drone of traffic, people talking, other people's music, nothing.
Also the moment I arrive home at the end of the day, having struggled through the commuting traffic. That's pretty good too.
Congrats on the weight loss - keep it up!

  45. In summer, late afternoons out in the screened gazebo with my Anglo-Saxon lyre or a guitar, and the dogs beside me, or in winter, after sunset but before dinner time, when I crochet and listen to music or podcasts while the pots bubble. My dogs do love a nap all on the bed together, and I think they miss it now that I generally feel well enough to get through the days upright.
