" Get away from her .....YOU BITCH!"

I'm sat in the vets.....it's going to be a long wait as there are two labs, an old spaniel with a bad heart,
and an RTA before us.
So I'm playing on the old ipad.
It stops people chatting to me, I hate small talk at the vets

A few years ago I found myself walking around the corner of Bloomingdales New York and I  bumped right into a tall, chic looking woman wearing a tartan coat.
She said " Pardon" and floated on.
I squeaked like a girl.
The woman was Sigourney Weaver!

We are going to New York in the Autumn ( instead of Australia)
I wonder which famous bod I shall spy there.....
We have not been for a few years and I'm already excited

Who is the most famous celebrity that you have met, albeit briefly!??
I'd be interested to know

  1. About 20yrs ago I quite literally ran into one of the Dallas Cowboys linebackers in the grocery store. I hit the floor & he very gently picked me up & apologized. I was just glad he wasn't running when he hit me. LOL

He took a pink silk scarf from

Neither of us spoke. (I was unable)
    He smiled.
    Kept walking, closely followed by

  6. Peter Sallis from Last Of The Summer Wine. We were on one of many holidays we have had in Yorkshire, one day we were visiting Holmfirth and there he was walking down the street. We said hello and he stopped and had quite a lengthy chat. He said he didn't mind having some photos taken with my son and younger sister. A perfect gentleman. Also met Bradley Walsh at a recording of Celebrity Chase.

  10. At a packed restaurant in Manhattan many years ago, I sat at a table next to to Angie Dickinson and Burt Bacharach, so close that I couldn't help overhearing their private conversation. A personal friend and neighbor was John Howard Griffin who wrote Black Like Me. I have one degree of separation from both Lyndon Johnson (his cousin was my maths teacher) and Elvis Presley (one of his original backup singers in the Jordannaires was a close friend of mine in later years). All those things and a couple of dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

Forget the "bitch", John. You are going to the dogs.

You "squeaked like a GIRL"? Wait till you graduate and learn how to squeak like a MAN. Then we'll be talking. Enter Albert.

The most celebrated celebrity I have met? Sweetheart John, so many. Some of which I shared ... with. Unlike Cro and Tom I am not a name dropper. Neither do I wish Rachel to faint. It is her birthday today.

I have two stories, the first that I sat down to write about and the second that I hadn't really thought of as a famous person until I started typing...

Back in 2003 we decided to take a trip to Canada. The flight was via Chicago and (as usual) United (who like to beat up customers) had problems with the connecting flight to Montreal. We ended up in a small departure lounge along with two men, one young and one older. The young man had a white baseball cap on his head and looked a little agitated by the delay. After a few minutes we realised that the young man was the tennis star (I think world No 1 at the time) Andy Roddick and the older man was his trainer Brad Gilbert. We just sat there for a couple of hours keeping ourselves to ourselves and so did they. I think that they appreciated that. Later in the week we watched him play at the Montreal Open tournament.

The other is a little more interesting. Although, as John puts it, I am king of "off colour 1980's old jokes" in real life I am a physicist working at a lab in the US. Back in the late 1980's I worked at CERN in Switzerland. I was working on computer software as part of the computing division. One of my colleagues, Tim, was working on some software to help us with our documentation. We met frequently to discuss our projects and were fairly good friends. Tim's project was based on an idea to use computers do serve up documents on demand over a network. My project used some software written by Tim to communicate between computers. We used to debug the stuff on a computer made by a company called NeXT, incidentally founded by some bloke called Steve Jobs. I left CERN to come to the US but Tim stayed. The NeXT computer is now in the CERN museum (it makes me feel old that something I used is in a museum) it became the worlds first web server. Tim is Sir Tim Berners-Lee and is credited with the invention of the World Wide Web, the very think I am using to write this.

For better or worse, thanks Tim!

  71. So you'll be staying at Trump Tower, then? I want to see a selfie taken in the gold lift.

I suppose the only real 'celebrity' I ever met - AND talked to at fair length - was Ursula Vaughan Williams some 30 years ago at a garden party in Earls Court.
However, on my own one and only visit to NY back in '69 I did see (see only, alas) none other than Miss Sophia Loren. There was a group of about 20 people hanging around the entrance to some very chi-chi hotel. So, being curious, I waited and timed it very well as shortly after I arrived, out she comes - and at a time of her life when we she looked at her very best.

And, oh yes, during her Silver Jubilee national tour in 1977, on her visit to Oxford, I stood within about six feet of Her Maj herself - though I dare say that many, many thousands can claim the same at some time.

  72. I nearly bumped into Jane Fonda as she was going from her dressing trailer to the filming location when she was making a movie in my home town. It was just the two of us; nobody else was there. I was carrying a bunch of paperwork from one office building to another and politely asked for her autograph. She declined. "I can't right now," she said. I followed her onto the set and watched them film the scene.

The movie was the quite forgettable "Rollover" with Kris Kristofferson, 1981. Our home town was playing the part of a middle eastern oil-rich capital city.

I sang Cheek to Cheek in a gay bar with Samuel Anderson (Danny Pink from Dr Who) last June, I worked on shows with Bob Grant from On The buses, Colin Crompton from the Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club, and also with Tony Christie of "I Did What I Did for Maria" fame. Not a bad haul for a kiwi down under.
In Rye, south coast of England and former home town of Spike Milligan, I nearly met Tom Baker of Dr Who fame also, but we were so overcome with awe, we didn't say hello.

  84. Oh gosh, so many...though I suppose that for many people, chatting with Princess Diana would be pretty high on the list.

  85. I met Linda McCartney once at an appointment, someone rushed out and said to her "I love your sausages", I asked her if she got told that a lot and she said yes.

I saw Sean Connery on the street in London in the mid nineties and Robson Green at the tube station.

Here in NZ have got to see the queen when we were school girls and she said she liked our uniforms. Got to see Prince William who was walking with our Prime Minister through our workplace. Our PM said "Good morning, you all need to get back to work now". Cheeky man.

  86. A couple of years ago I met Jay Leno at his Big Dog Garage in Burbank, California. My son is the editor of a vintage racecar magazine and Jay has a huge collection of cars. We were given a tour of the place, which is unbelievable if anyone is a car buff. The garage isn't open to the public and you have to pass through several security checkpoints to enter. I have to say, up close Jay has the bluest eyes!

  87. In the early 1980s, I was a big fan of the daytime soap opera General Hospital, and for some reason Jacklyn Zeman (AKA Bobbie Spenser, Luke's sister)was appearing at a local mall. I went and got her autograph, which I've since lost.

I once met the conservative humorist P.G. O'Rourke at a book signing. I abhorred his politics but liked his writing style (I'm weird that way.) This was during the Clinton era. A couple years later in a different era I doubt I would have been open-minded enough to go meet him, no matter how much I liked his style.

Finally, I was working at McDonalds in the 1980s when, during lunch hour, Milton Berle walks into the restaurant! I found out later on it was arraigned. At the time we had a 90-year old man working at McD's who had been written up in the local newspaper and had appeared on the local news...for being a 90-year old working at McDs (I guess he was kind of famous himself.) When Milton Berle came to town, it was arraigned that the two meet. For a few years afterwards a photo of Berle and the 90-year old hung on a wall, until the latter died, and it was taken down. It happens.

  88. I'm pretty sure I saw Liam Neeson drive by my house, he stared at me the whole way past as I sat on my front stoop with my baby like some depression era photography project all hot and bothered in the summer afternoons heat... I cleaned up after Tom Jones at the little theater center I worked at in Fort Collins Colorado, he wasn't as messy as the church groups we had to clean up after as well.Tony Danza was a privileged and persnickety princess. I was the on call house supervisor during his show one night, no fun in real life. That's about it for me.

  89. I was going to mention waiting in line at a theatre queue behind Rolf Harris and his wife and chatting with them and how nice they both seemed... but best not.

  90. Gary Holton from Auf Wiedersehen Pet in a pub in the West End theatre district. He was having a pint and reading the paper... so surreal at the time.

  92. Peter Max and Terry Bradshaw. Max was at an art exhibition in Pittsburgh. My husband has some cruise ship art of his and we had found an early 1970's copy of Life magazine in a junk shop that featured him to take along. He had his granddaughter with him and the magazine had photos of her mother as a child. He was very gracious and signed the magazine and had his photographer take pictures. Sorry I never asked to get copies. Terry Bradshaw and the Pittsburgh Steelers have pre season practice at a local college. Introduced to him at a night club by a coworker who got to know him "very well". That's all I'm saying about that!
