Watching

I think blogland is suffering from a Febuary bout of writer's Block.
I blame the short dark days of winter coupled with small doses of apathy and a post adrenalin drop following surges experienced with the crowning of Trump!
Perhaps we are all feeling rather jaded with all of this demonstrating
Or is it more likely that fuck all is happening in our lives ?

On this morning's power walk Mary and I sat on the broken stone wall overlooking  Basil's sheep fields and the valley East of the village and looked out at the view. Welsh terriers love to sit and watch, so we sat and watched for an absolute age.
I day dreamed about having a new kitchen. Mary sat with her own deep doggy thoughts.
She was so preoccupied thay she didn't notice Mrs Trellis and Blue walking up the hill behind us. Mrs Trellis' bobble hat was sticking straight up as usual! She looks like Noddy!

  1. I was actually thinking of taking February off from writing blog posts and just commenting on others for a while. But if there are fewer blog posts written, that won't mean much.

I trust that you'll keep up your regular posting schedule? ;)

    2. World affairs are intruding much more than they have for a very long time, and it's difficult to concentrate on normal life these days.
Mary is probably pondering on the ridiculous state of affairs that is Brexit, and that odious idiot across the pond. Hopefully these, too, shall pass !

I've been suffering from increasingly severe writer's block for quite a while now. Maybe I've just run out of things to say and it's time to give it up?

  4. We're all still in shell-shock from the last 6mo or so. I come here for a bit of reassurance that the world goes on at its own pace, with dogs & cats & other animals. BTW - we haven't heard an update on Auntie Glad in a while. How is she doing?

  5. I absolutely love the way dogs sit and just think .. Sometimes my dog Tate would sit for so long, so still, I would nudge him to be sure he was alive/awake ..
My husband said that they meditate.
    Why not ?
I would be still and quite happy with a nice long sit on the hill with that view.

    2. Jennifer, one year I was having a lot of trouble dealing with winter and boredom and difficult relatives.
When I was a teenager, I volunteered at a Rehab Center.
I always remember how good I felt working there and being there for good reasons.
Now, when I am feeling those winter blahs, I volunteer, donate, etc .. reading to nearly blind elderly people at centers for senior citizens is a good thing too.
Once we stop thinking about ourselves and do something for someone else, we feel better :)

I agree with you, John. Reminds me of how, once upon a time (among many others), one of our cats nearly broke my heart. I can't remember what possessed me to buy a DVD that simulates an aquarium on your TV screen. It's all very peaceful, no noise, just colourful movement. Quite nice when passing through the lounge, cursory glance. And less labour intensive than a real aquarium. Enter Fleury. First she sat and took it all in, her head bending one side and then the other - surveying the lie of the land. Now, as you know, nothing is more enticing to a cat than anything that moves. Eventually, she got really close to the screen and started swiping - most elegantly - at those "fish". I watched her for a while till she emitted one of those little miaows complete with quivering chin that signal a cat's complete, utter and heartfelt frustration.I switched the TV off lest I'd report myself to the RSPCA for cruelty to a cat's sensitivities. I've still got the CD; Fleury, alas, now chasing her bounty in mousers' heaven.

My boss, on the other hand is floating in extreme luxury on Lord Howe Island, somewhere in the Tasman Sea. She emailed me to tell me she'd found paradise! Now THAT would be something for me to write home about, instead of which, I'm slaving over a hot AGA trying to mark my place in Marmalade History. Life's a beach!!!

Well . . . as my blog generally depends on photos of my daily rambles, it has come off the rails since August when my 14-year-old Collie died suddenly; since then I have been housebound after having a Replacement Knee operation and also it's constantly wet and foggy here on Bodmin Moor - not good for photos!! That is a sweet picture. I can't get over how green your fields are there. If you could see our hills, which isn't possible today because of the new snow, they would be a dull brown-grey with only the evergreen trees to break the monotony.

  32. Want to hear about my cat related accident last night ?
The sweet ancient old Himalayan cat was sleeping on the dog bed.
It was late, I leaned down to pick him up and lost my balance and fell forward. Hitting my head on the trim to the sliding glass doors.
I actually cried it hurt a lot but it made me sad my husband was not here to 1- laugh at me 2- make me feel better 3- make sure I wasn't seriously injured ... which made me worry about the cats .. who will take care of them, so it made me cry.
    Today I am exhausted ..

I pick her up often, in the house and hold her up, stand by one of the windows, so she can look out and watch the birds, chippies, neighbors wandering, or the very large, yellow/white CAT . . . and dream away about whatever. We enjoy those times tremendously.
