Ward Nite Out

Late last night I found myself waiting for a lift home from the back entrance of a somewhat " lively" establishment in a nearby town.
I was enjoying standing in the cold with the light rain on my face
The place was filled with rowdy, good-natured drinkers , most of them looking for anything between a snog and a shag. Many of the revellers were robustly drunk.
I was sober having sipped my pint of beer for an hour or so and half finishing a coffee martini cocktail which was a gift from a sweet friend.
I am out of practice with ward night outs!
It's not that I am antisocial, I am not! but I find the banging music, raucous laughter, skirts the size of   face flannels that would barely cover Sharon Stone's muff and the general scrum for the bar all a bit hard work.
It was nice to go to say goodbye to the four junior staff nurses who now have moved on to different work lives.
But I was glad to get home to bed to sleep and snore alongside an already comatose husband and a Welsh terrier who was dreaming Welsh terrier dreams .

  1. I have long been out of the 'night out' scene. About a year ago I went with my son's girlfriend to a local 'martini bar' and was surprised to discover how vibrant and busy a place it was -- absolutely packed out! I enjoyed it, but apparently not enough to do it again since! A cozy chair in front of the fire watching telly suits me just fine!!!

  2. You're getting old, chuck!
A good night out for me these days is a lovely meal somewhere posh, a short drive home, followed by a really good night's sleep!

  6. The day comes along when a raucous bar night is not as much fun as a night at home with your love and Welch Terrier love too!

  8. You remind me of my husband.. smart, silly, witty, serious, kind, funny, loyal and goofy .. not to mention just plain lovable.

I thought I had had my fill of raucous nights out and that sort of thing by the time my husband and I moved to Argentina.
But dinner is not served until after 9:00 pm and it lasts forever and the wine is tasty and the music is wonderful and I found myself sleeping later in the mornings ... which made me feel old but I felt younger too. I was behaving the way I used to .. when I was a girl with no one to tell me to go to bed, you have to go to work in the morning ... these days/nights, I am happy to crawl into bed and find that a space has been left open for me, among the cats .. who sometimes do a little acappella purring when mama comes to bed.

    2. Me too ! I remember having all sorts of forays into the world of drugs and drink and still getting home all in one piece , going to work the next day ( where someone would never fail to tell me that they were going to have to use more concealer than usual under my eyes ~sigh ~ ) but I did it ..

When they do this blog up as a film, you should play yourself - you would be perfect for the role and you are soooo handsome.

  26. Goodness me, my Saturday night ended up very like yours! After our show closed I felt a desire to get more return on investment on the two hours of makeup and hair that goes into creating my stage persona, so a bunch of us hit the town. An hour or so later had a moment of wondering what the feck I was doing out and about, and I wasn't the only one! So I caught a cab home - not very far but my feet were killing me by then. And kept me awake most of the night with leg cramps. Heels and me have no time for each other. It was fun but I felt a bit like the chaperone at a school dance!

  29. For years I avoided them; just use to say thank you so much for asking but by the time I get home and get changed it is a long way back. That worked until I retired! Not knowing what to get me with the residue of money left after kindly buying me a present they all decided that I would love to join them in their Christmas night out. Oh, boy, I was the only sober one, I was bored stiff, the food was terrible with a parsnip on my plate that just needed a battery to be a sex toy. I rang my hubby up and begged him to rescue me, he did of course. Learn to say NO. Love Andie xxx

  30. I've heard of the place. The "back entrance" in a "nearby town" . . . It's where my dad would go for a drink on Sundays when Wales was dry.
