Immortal

Trelawnyd at the turn of the Century

Yesterday I received an email from The National Library of Wales,
"Dear Mr Gray,

The National Library of Wales would like to invite you to participate in the UK Web Archive by archiving your web site (http://trelawnydhistory.blogspot.co.uk/).  The UK Web Archive is a partnership between the National Library of Wales, the British Library, and the National Library of Scotland, to preserve website for future users. We have identified this web site as an important part of Wales’ documentary heritage and would like it to remain available to researchers in the future.  The archived copy of your web site will form part of our permanent collections"

I was tickled pink!  For now Going Gently's more serious and more worthy sister blog will be archived for future generations! Auntie Glad words will live on as will the stories of villagers past ( who could forget the animated video between Olwenna Hughes and Gwyneth Jones as they discussed  a visiting belly dancer in the village Hall!

If you want to read more about the history of the village it's characters the link is way down my right sidebar...just click on the photo of auntie Glad- Trelawnyd Voices From The Past!

  2. Congratulations, although I think Going Gently should also be recognised and archived as a modern reflection of Trelawnyd.

Well, it was quite some time ago, a number of months, when I sent an email to Wales National Library suggesting that your blog should be archived, and the library did not reply. Maybe cogs move slowly in Wales. I did actually put some effort into the email, so unlike me. I suggested your blog represented social change, changing demographics but most importantly, a snapshot of a certain period in the history in Wales. I too have been archived. We cross two very different worlds, analogue and digital. We almost experienced the new tv device, certainly colour tv. We know about party telephone lines yet we use digital technology easily. There will never be another time like we and our parents have lived through, well, until world peace is declared, which would please me greatly.

Oh yes, and congratulations. The library should have, and maybe did, picked up your blog of its own accord.

  17. Congratulations to you! It's grand that your capturing of a very particular place and time will be available for future generations.

I will confess that I have yet to click to your other site, and until now did not know of its existence. I guess I still am a relative newcomer around here. My good news is that I have many interviews to check out, even before they become part of a library.

  27. Congratulations John! Your blogs have gotten me through quite a bit of trauma and depressing things and I am thrilled that you will be preserved for posterity (sounds a bit ominous when stated that way). You are an amazing person to do so many different things and to do them with grace and dignity! Please carry on!!

  31. Congrats! I'd never seen this other extremely interesting blog of your village and surrounding area. It's a huge job to find, and then share, so much history. People such as you are special and will hopefully be thanked profusely in the years to come. Things must be written down - and we must always identify the people and places in photos.
Keep up the great work John.
