Fantastic Beasts

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, indeed I have never read any of J k Rowling's work, so I was, I'm afraid at a bit of a disadvantage when we went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them .
Having said this I more or lest got the gist

Redmayne and Fogler

In 1920 New York EnglishWizard Newt ( Eddie Redmayne)  accidently frees some mythical creatures he has been entrusted to care for. The American wizards arn't happy, nor are the anti witch loving humans so Newt , his friends- a wannabe baker ( Dan Fogler) and American wizard investigator Tina ( Katherine Waterston) are left to save the day.
Waterston

It's not my cup of tea, but I must admit Fogler and Waterston are incredibly cute in their roles (with Waterston looking incredibly like Audrey Tautou aka Amelie), the mythical Beasts suitably mythical and an art deco New York wonderfully art deco.
7.5/10

  1. I wasted two hours of my life and twenty quid going to see this. I thought it was awful but I did like the setting of 1920's New York.
I don't know if it was our cinemas sound system but the soundtrack was very mumbly. I couldn't tell you a word that Eddie Redmayne spoke.

  2. Must have been the sound system, we heard him loud and clear.
Being a Potterfan, I found this piece a bit confusing. Great shooting, good casting, nice details, but I don't like the idea of children being called upon to carry evil, especially not when they have an obvious handicap. Some scenes were actually scary in an nonentertaining way....Oh well, John, perhaps you should try a bit of Potter, this was a hard one to start out with!!
    Merry Christmas to you both!!!

  3. Aaahhh John... I LOVED this movie! I have read the Harry Potter books and seen all the movies so i have to admit this was right up my alley... As much as i loved it... the special effects were incredible and the sheer imagination that went into these animals amazes me.. but as much as i loved it .. i have to agree with Shelia Eddie Redmayne was very difficult to understand .. I would have enjoyed it waaay more if i didn't have to strain to make out what he was saying......I'am not a fan of Colin Farrell.... and i did not care for him again in this movie... But the sheer magic of this movie won me over........ Hugs! deb

  5. You're right about Fogler and Waterston, I didn't like Redmayne at all. The CGI was amazing. It's obviously aimed for the aging Potter fan.

  6. It is very popular here in the states, but wizardry is not my cup of tea either.

  7. I'm a big fan of fantasy, even write it myself, but not a huge fan of Potter because I get annoyed at how the adults in his life fail to support and protect him adequately. They're bloody lucky he didn't turn out evil the way he got treated. :D It also promises charm and wonder but delivers darkness way too dark for kids, and for this little softy too. Suspect I'll watch this one eventually but mostly for the critters. Having said all that, I did get officially sorted into Hufflepuff house. No surprises there. :D

  8. there are so many different matters that are to be taken care of while taking the dietary supplements however the most important element which is to be taken care of is that the dose or the quantity of these supplements to be taken in by using any character have to be taken beneath http://testoupmaxfacts.com/max-test-xtreme/

  10. Loved it too. We thought Eddie's acting the role was superb - shy & little eye contact with the humans ! The baker part was lovely.
Off to see the new Star Wars film today - lucky me my 20 year old son wants to take me to the cinema !

  11. One of the great joys of the way my life changed a few years ago was that I knew I never had to sit through another Harry Potter movie ever again. And I never have...

  12. well, my sister and I went and we enjoyed it. and yes, I had trouble comprehending about half of what Redmayne was saying though it was plenty loud enough. but then I have that trouble at home watching TV.

  13. I will see just about any film .. not a crap horror film or those badly made cheap things out of Hollywood for some tax evading director lol, but just sitting in a dark theatre and being entertained for a couple of hours by a movie is about all I ask for.
I remember some wise actor being on a talk show and the host said something about "the message " the film sent .
The actor (Alec Guinness ?) replied, quoting Samuel Goldwyn, "If I want to send a message, I will use Western Union".

  14. I just finished the book last night (which is actually a script, not a book). Now that I know what's going to happen, I can enjoy the stuff in the movie whether I can hear the characters or not. My favorite part of anything Rowling is the creativity.

  15. I liked the movie more than you. I really liked Tina's character. But I did think the main Potter storeis were better

  16. I saw this last night with Middle Daughter and it was the perfect antidote to the emotional wreckage wrought by the funeral, earlier yesterday, of my best friend of almost a complete lifetime. The animation was amazing and there are bits of New York scenery I might recognize now (not that I am ever likely to go there).
