Billy No Mates

Even the living room is empty, the dogs are all asleep in the kitchen

The Prof has just facetimed me from the pub. He's there with his family, fitting them in between work in London.
I'm sat at home feeling like Billy-No-mates

But I have lots of mates..I've had mates for years.

Craggy faced, Tom Stephenson, Rachel-of-the-Fens, Pudding of Yorkshire, Farmer's wife Pat from North Yorkshire and Ann Marie with the New York accent.
Raymondo, Jimbo, Jon, Steve,Mitchell,  Andrew and Dave.....gays with something to say.... Dave, Nick, dave, Andrew, Chris, Cro, Gary and Kev , all straights with something to say too!
Those with nicknames...like Miss Norm, Parsnips , trailer Trash, and a hundred others
Sue H, John W, from around the corner, Simone, Twiggy, Elephants Child and CoffeeOTP a little further on..
And Yael, Carlinpa,Francis and a ton of others from exotic far flung places......
Lots to read, lots to read you...sorry I have not mentioned you all, new friends and old
Oh and not forgetting the bitch Ursula, who always enjoys a debate

Lots of friends
Hey ho

  6. Having "virtual" blogging friends is rather nice because you don't have to buy them drinks or take note of their personal aromas. Was "Billy No Mates" in "The Beano"?

  7. There's something to be said for mates you don't need to clean up the house for .. or change into something more presentable.

  16. I'm not much of a mate. More of a lurker who loves your sense of humour. NB. They'll surely be coming back from the pub soon? You'll have to put some clothes on or nip upstairs and pretend you've been in bed for ages. Better still sit in your pants with a bottle of beer and prepare to partay!

  20. In Oz we say "Nigel No Friends". No self respecting Aussie would be called Nigel but there are plenty of Billys.

  21. And there I was thinking you'd spelled my name with an i.

Here's an easy tip I once gave Norman Mailer as he signed a book for me. It's "i" for his and "e" for hers. He smiled, twinkled his blue eyes, and signed my vintage copy of Armies of the Night. (He was promoting another book at a lovely, now closed, bookshop, but certainly didn't mind signing old books, too.)

Best wishes from NYC...perhaps it's not really an exotic place!

  24. You are my #1 Blogger! The very first thing I read everyday is Going Gently! I hope you never decide to end it. It would be like losing my best friend! There has been a lot of water under the bridge since I found your blog and it has gotten me through some very tough times! All I can say is Thank You!

  25. Just read your post about Jacqueline and you are so right. We live far away from each other we blog buddies but there is a connection. Sometimes it's even healthy. it was so kind of you to mention followers by name and so wonderful of J's significant other to take a moment to notify you. Non- bloggers poke fun but these relationships do matter. Oh hey...new mantra...BLOGGERS LIVES MATTER!

  26. Ain't the internet grand? I've "met" a lot of nice folks around the world (you included) that I never would have gotten to know in a million years without it.

  27. Cheers John Gray. My drink of choice is either coffee with vanilla creamer or Diet Pepsi. I have a grandson who is 10 who's carrying problems on his shoulders no 10 yr old should worry about. You have experience in psychiatric nursing. Did you ever deal with patients as young as 10? He's having repeating hom and su ideology. He didn't get to say goodbye to his Dad before he passed. The school isn't dealing well with it. His counselor doesn't feel she can adequately provide the care that he is needing. Mom's not to open to all this. MI is a scary thought for her. I'm at a loss, any ideals?

    1. I wish I could be of some help. All I can say is that my thoughts and best wishes go out to you and your grandson. 10 years old is very young to be carrying such a burden. He is very lucky to have you in his life. Maybe you could send John an email. His address is on this website. Take care.

  29. Ta for the 'shout' from me too, but as I read I sensed that you were heading for a fall by unintentionally neglecting to mention some who were, perhaps, at least as valued by you as some of us whom you did list. But there you are. We all would have done the same, I'm sure.
In my place my blog pals are just about the only genuine friends I have on earth. Well, I do also correspond about twice a year with one guy in Worcestershire and another in Munich, but all my regular social interaction is with precious friends like you, J.G., plus maybe about seven or eight others. Life would be a lot more empty and purposeless without.
(Oh, and not forgetting Blackso, Noodles and Patchie.)

  32. BadPenny here who is not bad at all but rather nice. I spoke to a dear Blog friend once on the telephone - she was a Blog a friend of yours too who vanished in very sad circumstances. I miss her. After we spoke she called me Posh Penny. I'm not posh at all ! Perhaps I'll leave you a message; I've been told I have a nice voice and a smile that fills a room. I think you have a wonderful voice & wish you would do some recordings of your village tales xx

  34. I didn't read this last night, so I don't know if I could have been any help to you at the time. I might have reacted badly to 'craggy-faced', so it is just as well. I tend to be craggier in the morning, but mentally more subdued. I suppose I had better go and respond to last night's comments now - or I may indulge in a spot of onanism whilst reading Rachel's latest post. Morning!

What did you say to me a day or so ago? "Me, me, me". What did I tell you in reply? Look at the comments to your home alone; tears shed by those of your friends not being mentioned by name. Now you know all there is to know about Oscars' night.

Apropos of which: Remember "(Disaster) Film", your long held ambition?

You set yesterday evening's scene perfectly. And cost effective: You are the only one on the couch (no cat fights); costume designer's services expendable (underpants); lighting and sound engineering negligible (dim, if atmospheric). Enter the script writer. Easy. DIY.

I am happy to stretch the red carpet so no one will stumble and pull the curtain so everyone can see. Other than that I feel I am sitting on the time bomb of one of your next posts, namely your take on the subject of "brachycephalic" which has dogged this morning's news.

    May Winnie breathe another day,
    U
