Curved Ball

I should have known better.
In the last post I mentioned that I've not been worried about the animals
And a few hours later my sister rings with the news that George has something wrong with his jaw.
A sudden foul smelling mass which looks suspect according to the vet who examined him
The Prof and I tried so very hard to smile through a family dinner tonight
But I suspect we failed miserably.

  2. Always when you go away. I think it is an infected tooth. I don't think it would come up so sudden and be smelling if it were too serious. Don't worry (easy to say.)

  6. Rough had a swelling pop up - was an abscess and the vet had to pull teeth. If that's the case, I know you will take him to your most trusted vet.

My first thought, also, was that it might be an abscessed tooth. Which isn't the worst thing that could happen.

  8. I had a Standard Poodle who had the same exact thing .. it seemed like from one minute to the next.
Vets fixed it ... he lived a long life after that ... try not to worry too much, says the person who worries about every little thing ..
    much love ! C & the Cats
And yes, life does have a way of throwing a curve ball now and then.

    1. There are these things called Benign Clusters too .. smelly, lumps, in the mouth.. if a tooth is bad / abscessed .. try not to imagine the worst.

  10. Oh no ... the first thing I thought of was an abscessed tooth as well. Poor George. And there's nothing can ruin your holiday quicker than illness of someone you love, no matter if that's a human or a pet. Good luck.

  20. My little terrier used to get occassional infections right in the joint of her jaw. It would make her lethargic and unable to eat. It stank too. A good dose of antibiotics used to help. She lived to eighteen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just something similar. X

  21. Children and creatures have a knack of making you worry just when you think you've got everything covered. Poor George, must be painful for him, some antibiotics should do the trick. He's with your sis' so he'll be getting lots of love and attention.

  24. Oh no poor George. Hopefully it is a tooth or he has had a little bit of rough play that has become infected. Lots of antibiotics and he will be right again.

  38. That is soo typical!! Poor George and poor you!! He is in good hands, take it easy. We've been through that and the anxiety is massive but mostly it works out quite well. But I know, you want to be there....

  39. Try not to worry until you absolutely have to. That's what an animal would do. We have much to learn from them.

  41. Awww... that sounds nasty, thank goodness he is with family and not at the kennels.

Our Border Collie Sophie decided to up and die while we were on holiday in Guernsey. The phone call from my Mum at 7.30 in the morning to let us know meant that we were both in tears over breakfast at the hotel ... everyone must have thought we'd had a real humdinger of a row!!
