So Sad

  1. Oh John, it really is sad isnt it. The one I love is from Dinner Ladies, with Stan, when he wants to move to Scotland. When she says something like, how can I live there when they spell it Ecclefechan and pronouce it Keer-could-brie (Kirkcudbright). I laugh because when we have to visit family I always say, lets go to Kirk -cud-bright, how it is spelt. And always think of that sketch.

  3. In housewife 49 she really brought Nella Last to life. This year has been awful so far. We have lost so many bright stars. Very young as well. Very very sad.

  4. I never met Victoria either, but I'm really going to miss her!
It makes me so sad, thinking of all the wonderful things that she still had tucked away in her mind, and now we'll never get to see or hear them.
RIP Victoria, and thanks so much for the laughter!

  5. Over here in the states we don't know who Victoria was, but it sounds like she brought a lot of laughter to your part of the world and it is sad indeed when someone like that dies.
There aren't enough laughs in the world. So sorry for your lose.

    1. Her humour was essentially British, but you missed someone very special.

  8. For a moment I thought that the above was quoting from one of her songs, but I imagine you've been discovered by a salesperson.

I was genuinely shocked when I heard the news. RIP.

She always came across as such a warm and genuine person with a wonderful ability to make us laugh at ourselves. She'll be sadly missed.

  11. Very sad. In fact tragic to lose such a talent when she was so young. She was funny without being offensive to anyone and the "let's do it" song was the first I thought of when I heard the news.

  12. Yes John, so young indeed. And reading her Obit in the Times this morning it does not sound as though life has been all plain sailing for her.

  13. Such an awful shock to hear the news yesterday. It's hardly believable that such a bright, full-of-life person has gone for ever. Bloody, bloody cancer!

  14. Sometimes Victoria Would but sometimes she wouldn't. Born the same year as me - it was hard not to feel a connection.

  15. I have been constantly shocked this year by the death of so many people in the public eye and many losing their lives to cancer too. Cancer is the modern day plague.

  16. We've lost far too many lovely people in the first four months of this year :-(

She was a wonderfully natural lady, what a loss.

  21. Death and cancer seem to be constant companions amongst iconic people at the moment. Another real loss - loved her singing 'Let's do it'.

  22. How terribly young. RIP Victoria Wood. I remember her being interviewed and saying how weird the Brits were in that they would pack a picnic and eat it in a layby watching the lorries go by - and how right she was. A wonderful social commentator (sez me from my deckchair in a layby). Sad indeed. Anna

  25. The news hadn't reached me here in Canada, but I knew who you were referring to immediately from that picture. So iconic. My fave of hers was Acorn Antiques. She was also excellent in that wartime drama as the long suffering housewife. Such a loss.
