Now it's all friggin Easter Bunny, egg hunts , pastel colours and a big leg of lamb with the family.
My mother- in- law arrives next week, and on Easter Sunday, I will arrange for her an Easter chick and bunny hunt ..........

    3. It was the "cheap eggs from the supermarket, shit TV and sombre church services" that got me. When I was a church goer, admittedly at a very posh Episcopal church, we had a brass quintet from the Philadelphia Orchestra to proclaim the resurrection. Not sombre at all.

  2. Those chicks are really cute. I still like to dye Easter eggs and I'll be 41 next week...so I guess I'm in the club, too. :)

I think it has worked its way up from schools. But still, at school we used to 'blow' and paint eggs. I haven't heard the annual 'school not celebrating Easter in case Moslems are offended' story yet.

  5. Ahhh John - when I was a kid we did dye easter eggs, and the Easter Bunny would hide our baskets in the house so we would scramble to find them when we woke up! And Mass of course later (of course we couldn't eat anything from the basket because we had to fast before communion). It was only one of three times in the year that our parents bought us candy (the other two being Halloween and Christmas). Us girls would wear corsages for Mass (how did my dad afford them?) and he'd spring (hehee) for a little lamb cake. Good times!

  7. Well, I think it's adorable Easter shit.

I love the essence of Easter! Americans are basically a bunch of heathens, but Easter is a HUGE money-making racket here.

  14. My husband was Jewish. He didn't actually practice but he was born into it and they did not do a big thing on Easter, as you might imagine LOL
I was born into a family of Christians who liked to try out a different form , every now and then.
But the one constant in my family was Easter and Christmas.
Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and there had better be no mistakes.
Lots of chocolate happened on both holidays.
Santa or a Rabbit, I don't think anyone cared, as long as chocolate and too much sugar was involved.

Have fun .. there is nothing more giggle inducing to me than a bunch of adults hunting Easter Eggs.
After having an Easter breakfast with lots of Bloody Marys and Mimosas ..(Champagne & Orange Juice) .. yeah, we knew how to celebrate those religious events :D

  21. Easter? Oh, you mean Cadburytide, so all our podgy children can eat themselves into a chocolate fuelled tantrum. I am not religious, bur Easter is a Christian festival and not a marketing opportunity, isn't it? Bah humbug (or Lindt Bunny)!

  22. A great opportunity to eat a LOT of chocolate!! and do perverted things with 'Peeps' - do you have Peeps in Wales? (kind of like marshmallows only in pastel colors and shaped like bunnies). If you look online at the things people do with Peeps, you will never look at the world the same - you can't 'unsee' some things.

    Stick with chocolate eggs!

  25. I love the way we can use swear words for any conversation, as an insult, "You shit" a question, "Who shit?" A reassurance, "I shit you not." A compliment, " You look shit hot" to be scared," I shit myself" Fuck is also good for this sort of thing. Anyway, I'll shut the fuck up now. X

  27. It is all how you take it.
Boil some eggs and color them. That is one of the things I miss.
We used to have such fun. Plus I like egg salad and deviled eggs.

  32. Two things -
Just think of it as better than roast bunny and hunt the lamb.
I expect when the day comes you will be cavorting around the garden with the 4 x 4's and the assembled humans and having just as much fun as everybody else.

Here it's bacon butties for breakfast, then lamb for the carnivores, salmon for the lunatics, followed by the old tradition of stuffing our faces with chocolate!

  37. I am moving .. from NY to Florida.
I am not celebrating any holidays until after I have moved.
Well, maybe I will have some chocolate chicks or bunnies while packing.

  38. Dear John,
When we were kids Mom and Dad (The Easter Bunny) would hide our boiled eggs that we colored the day before. We would hunt for them in the house, then get ready for church. New pretty dress, hat and gloves and suits for the boys.
Fast forward several years, my parents had an egg hunt for the adults, and Easter was changed forever. Now I have it, and it has escalated BIG TIME! There are about 20 of us and we hide the eggs all over our property and you should see how us American's act over candy, a few dollars and a scratch off lottery ticket that is almost always a loser!

  40. Yo les dejé huevitos de pascua escondidos a mis hijas incluso cuando eran adolescentes. Y mamá siempre nos daba una bolsita con huevos de chocolate.
    Lindos recuerdos.
