Longing

I'm longing for blue skies
And dry lanes.
Grass you can lie on and look up to white clouds
and green hedgerows that frame the fields.
Hard dry ground, and happy hens lying in the shade and
no dirty paw prints around the house
Trelawnyd is warm, and dusty and clean

Trelawnyd under a dry Gop Hill in summer

  2. You are not alone :)
I would like to be able to go out to the mailbox without wearing a big coat, boots, and running so I don't just freeze in place !
I am sick of wearing boots and socks. And flannel pajamas.
I even wore socks to bed last night :(

You know, Winter wasn't this bad or cold when I had a husband beside me.

  4. Sydney has been sweltering and humid, I can't wait for autumn

  5. Our weather here in Florida in the US has been varying so wildly this winter that we don't have time to get tired of any of it. Was in the low eighties yesterday and we might have snow flurries next week. Unheard of! I have no idea when to plant my potatoes. Things are blooming that shouldn't be blooming until March or April and yet, we can wake up and find frost on the windshield and ice on the chicken waterer.
And none of this has anything whatsoever do do with your longing for warmth and dryness.
And what a gorgeous picture you posted of when that time shall return!

  6. On the first opportunity in early summer I lie on our lawn and look up at the swallows winging under blue skies with white cauliflower clouds and then I know that the winter has really gone.

  10. Sounds like you've got yourself a case of cabin fever, or as it's called in rural Montana the 'Shack Nasties'....in Montana it usually hits in April, when newbies find that Spring ain't there yet, and another foot of snow falls.

  11. You might have to *move* to Oz. Nearly every day is like that here, except add 'panting' to the picture of the chook in the shade. :)

  12. It seems so far away on this chill night with snow on the way.

  13. It's coming ... give it another month or two.

  14. It's a good thing we can remember the good seasons when we're in the midst of one we don't like; otherwise we'd all give up! Great picture; it so reminds me of our hills and valleys here.

  15. It has been so horribly humid here in S. E Queensland. Just sweaty and humid....

  17. I think we'd all agree with you John. Winter's (however cold or wet) are always far too long.

  18. I second that.

  19. We're sweltering in a muggy, close heat wave going into a weird long weekend where he actual holiday is tomorrow but the observation is on Monday so everyone is confused about whether things are going to be open. I long for a cool breeze, some sun and a nice manageable 22 degrees. Or snow. :)

  20. Not a bad winter here at all, so far. We've had some very cold nights but the days haven't been too bad at all - mid teens to low 20ºC's. Downside is very little rain over the winter, which is causing problems in the fruit/veg growing regions.

  21. It does seem to rain a lot in Wales.

  22. Come and live in Melbourne, pretty please.

  23. Oh absoslutely John. With great fervour. My garden is like a blardy paddy field . . .

  25. Can't come soon enough John - especially as our lane is now being dug up for a new gas pipe, so the mud is tripled.

  26. Phil, the groundhog, saw his shadow and so spring should be early! Here in France reports of the cranes flying north are also an indication of it should be getting warmer our way.

    1. No, no, no! When Phil the groundhog sees his shadow and runs back into his burrow, that means there will be six more weeks of winter. When fill doesn't see his shadow and stays out of doors, that means there will be an early spring.

    2. Nothing vague about that. Thanks for the correction -even if it ought to be the other way around ie sunny /springier. It's ages since I watched, was it, Bill Murrey?

  27. Even I'm sick of winter now and it's actually my 2nd favourite season, Autumn being favourite.

  28. A non-religious amen to that John! Sick, sick, sick of rain.

  29. Me too, John, except that that would mean I would have to start cutting the grass again and that is not my favourite occupation!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, I'm dreaming of that time, too! And we had such a wet summer last year. I would really love some warmth and dryness.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Totally agree John. Our kitchen floor is constantly covered in paw prints and every time I clean it the bloody rain starts again GRRRR!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, this isn't Trelawnyd, but I still wouldn't mind a bit of summer again right now.

  33. Two days ago, while squelching across the lawn to fill the bird feeder, I suddenly smelled the earth in clod of mud. We live in hope. Both Chattanooga Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil forecast an early spring: would both groundhogs lie?

  34. We are due another bout of snow starting tomorrow. They say about 15 centimeters. Then spring will come and we will have dirty paw prints for about a month or so once the melting happens. I too long for dryness.

Sing a song of summer. Can't wait.

  36. I'm feeling exactly the same.

HOW much longer can it rain for?

  37. Sigh......so am I. I'm so fed up with dirty, muddy, wet dog walks. It's really getting me down this winter! Thanks for the sunny photo :)
