Quiet Christmas.- Nigella's A Slag

I've just watched Nigella flirting outrageously to the camera whilst squeezing the begeebers out of a lemon. She's such a slut.
I got all excited as her lemon pavlova is something , even I may be able to crack off and as we have invited ourselves to dinner with the affable despots before Christmas , I will actually give it a go. We are doing starters, wine and pudding....I like the thought of bringing food with us at Christmas visiting time...its all very American.
I saw Mrs Trellis today, she has written a poem " for the blog" she told me, " its about Autumn"
I didnt tell her that I thought it was winter..but what do I know. Anyhow She reminded me that there is a carol service in the Church here next Sunday with A VIOLIN SOLOIST no less! and I told her that we will be going ....I hope Gaynor the Mad organist will be there, Ive bought her a santa hat to wear....I'll dare her to put it on during prayers.
Other Christmas jaunts include a family meal and visit to the panto in Llandudno and a cinema trip to see " It's a wonderful life"
As long as you stop thinking  and go with the flow, Panto's can be quite fun. it's a trick I finally mastered last year.
Some has-been from "Strictly" is starring in it, so I suspect it will be as camp as a row of tents....but I am looking forward to it.
Next week I'm off to London to see Nuala and London is always rather sweet just before Christmas ...we are off to Sadler's Wells for a Seasonal ballet ......which will be amazing but I am sorry not to be able to fit in a quick nip over to South Yorkshire too......but you cant fit everything in..........
It's starting to feel rather festive, I 'm delivering the village Christmas cards tomorrow and I've already noted that the new people in the police house have gone to town with their lights ! .......even the house with the bin bagged windows has put up a lurid flickering , flashing light reindeer underneath the plastic..
Hey ho

  4. you and the prof are going to be VERY busy the next couple of weeks.

I always like to bring something to a host's home, be it wine, or flowers, or dessert. it shows I appreciate the efforts the host has gone to for a good celebration. don't know whether it's an american custom or not, but it's the way I was raised.

    1. Yes, it's customary to take something when we dine out. Usually Wine for the host and chocolates, flowers or sometimes a pretty candle for the hostess.

  5. Know what a Pavlova is. I've made them and they are beautiful and delicious. Had to google Panto.
Nigella is a slut and makes a pretty penny for her efforts, I would say. She's gorgeous.

  6. I just caught the tail end of Nigella whilst waiting for London Detective. I have to say that the flirtation with the lens also put me off the food.

Or as my grandmother would say - a floozy .
I have been hoping someone would buy my house before now so I could be in a new home with family or friends for the Christmas holidays ... but so far .. here I am .. in the north woods with the cats.
    Send Pavlovas !

  16. How come Nigella Lawson remains on the BBC following her confessions about cocaine and cannabis use? Next we will learn that Mary Berry got caught shoplifting from "Poundstretcher" or that Fiona Bruce ram-raided a branch of Gregg's.

  18. We are planning to be in the British Isles for a few months next year. Can we come to the church? Can we see the neighborhood? I want so much to SEE your life. I've followed you (hardly ever commented... guess I'm shy)... but want so much to SEE it all. Feel it all... not feel like a stalker... but just be there.

  19. Bringing food is very New Zealand too. I guess it's colonial then. ;-) I do an orange and balsamic pav that everyone adores - just use your normal pav recipe, sub the malt vinegar for balsamic, finely grate in the rind of an orange and add a dash of white pepper. SErve with cream and orange slices. People go doolally over it. Screw Nigella!

  20. I thought it was still autumn until about Dec. 20 or so. Depending on the year.

Aside from that, it's all systems "go" at your house for the Christmas festivities, I can see :)

  24. I'm one of those who has never understood the attraction of 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Being force-fed its salvatory and over-simplified message brings out the converse in me. Wonderful life, indeed! In parts, maybe, but only from time to time - though overall, Bah, Humbug!

  29. It always amuses me when I watch Nigella flirting with the camera, because cookery programmes are usually aimed at the "little woman". But I guess the Beeb, in their twisted wisdom, figure the that Nigella's approach will attract the men as well, and raise the ratings. Wonder how many men actually cook anything they've seen? In our house, "himself" usually sleeps through it !

  32. I often want to slap Nigella, but she does do some good food. I copied ( with slight variations ) the salmon on a bed of watercress and sliced avocado ( with low fat vinaigrette) and it was extremely simple and very delicious. I fried the salmon in butter rather than poaching it in all sorts of bits and bobs, which made it all much quicker. Eaten with crusty bread; it was a delightful supper.

  33. Nigella's just there to make all us 55 year old small holders feel totally tomboyish!!

Although I have to say I was very taken with her Pavlova last night and will be making it at some point over Christmas.

Your seasonal plans sound brilliant I hope everything goes to plan. I must say we're both tempted by panto this year, the tickets had all sold out last year, I'm nipping over to the website now to check out availability :-)

  34. Whenever you return the subject of bin bagged windows, I always find myself thinking of Mr Carraway's advice to his son Nick: "Whenever you feel like criticising anyone, just remember that all the people in the world haven't had the advantages that you've had."

  38. Nigella must have a strong grip; those plastic lemons aren't easy to squeeze the bejeebers out of. As for Mrs. Trellis, she's got until 21 December to share her Autumn poem.

    1. Pantos are big business here in Northern Ireland, but I haven't been to one for donkey's years, not having any children or grandchildren. I always enjoyed the panto dames and the sing-a-longs and the pantomime horse. It's all totally absurd but it's a wonderful comic tradition I would hate to see disappear.

    1. No, it's not one of Nigella's best is it, smacks of desperation in places. Apart from Monday night's glorious lemon pavlova, most of the food in this series has looked as though it's just been chucked on the plate.
