Bus Trip

Little dramas on quiet days always seem like big dramas.
Today is a case in point.
I had to take Mary to town to be microchipped
We had to go on the bus.
It's a bumpy ride.
Just after the bends before Dyserth, she started to heave, and so trying to be ever so discreet, I pointed her head down from the seat off my lap and without a tissue to collect any residue I  had the brain wave to open the pocket on the side of my cargo pants which formed an impromptu sick bag. Into which I channelled the chunder soon after Mary barfed into my hand like a good 'un
That's about it for today.
Mary in the bath after getting home

I threw the pants away btw

  1. Ha! Been there, sort of! When we picked up my 12-week Golden Retriever puppy in April, I was holing him on my lap on the car ride home. He was a country puppy and had never been in a car, and he started heaving. I was lucky enough to catch his puke in my hand, and then my only thought was to thrust my hand out the car window, as we sped along at 50mph. The puke flew out of my hand, but then I had to wash off my car later. :( Great memory of bringing him home though. :) Always great adventures with puppies.

  6. True love .. true fatherhood .. My husband used to tell me Only a Mother would put her hands in "that" ... when they get sick, you do what you have to do .. Bless her little heart.. I get sick on a bus too. Therefore I never get on a bus. Ever. or the back seat of a car. ever. Poor little Mary. She looks so pitiful.. I bet she feels fine now doesn't she ? give her a kiss from me.

Poor little girl....I know what it's like to be motion sick on the bus. Not nice.

  10. Oh yeah, I'm a dog fan and Mary was teaching you a good old lesson. Next time, get a cab as Mary wants to travel in style. Limo comes to mind....

  11. That happened to me too... I mean I'm the one who barfed right there on the lunch counter at a restaurant. I was only 4. I think the other clients lost their appetite.

    2. LOL ... it is that retching sound that goes on forever then a little bit of bile is spit up .. My last dog saved the stomach issues for my husband. He knew how embarrassing it would be to deal with a Standard Poodle having diahrrea in the middle of the sidewalk in Buenos Aires.
      That dog was no dummy.

  22. I throw up on buses too .. therefore we have a car . In Argentina I saw people jump on the bus steps while it was still moving .. I was always astounded by that ... I never saw anyone fall and have their head run over by a bus .. it could happen. Never saw a dog throw up on a bus either .. but then I am never on a bus. I miss all the fun.

Hopefully, Mary will grow out of being motion sick; my current dog did. Are there any of those flat diaper pad things at your hospital that you could "borrow" for Mary's next trip in a vehicle? I'm a "terrier person", having owned two Borders and a miniature Schnauzer, and I think Mary's too cute for words.

  29. You need to get that crappy old Landy I pictured you in Sounds like you really do need a car
I don t know if this counts but when my previous pug was a puppy I was walking him after a potty trip and he pooped again , a mess on a pristine sidewalk I had used the pickup bag and thrown it away So I took off my shoe and sock and used the sock to pick up the poo. Since then I've used this trick more than once. Poop littering is frowned on here

  30. No way you would be allowed on a bus with a dog here in Oz. We are way too over governed here.

    1. It's the same here in Spain too. No dogs on buses or trains, and most taxi drivers aren't happy either, so charge a premium. Most vets (but not all) do home visits, at a price, but not sure how you get to the vet. if you haven't got transport, unless you have a willing friend with a car.
When we still lived in the UK, we went on holiday to Cornwall, and took our then six month old Lab. puppy on the ferry between St. Mawes and Falmouth. The sea was quite rough, but fortunately we are good sailors, and much to our relief so was the dog. He couldn't wait to get back on board for the return trip ! His fare cost us 60 pence return, so you can imagine how long ago that was !

  31. What a great dad you are! And a considerate bus comuter, too! Mary is such a little cutie in her bath. Sorry to hear you had to toss your pants, but now you have a good excuse to buy a replacement pair to proudly hang beside the Prof's elegant pants selection in your newly reorganised clothes cupboard. I think you are the sweetest, kindest, loveliest human being!

  36. I think that they have said it all but it is suprising how useful a couple of folded up plastic sandwich size bags are in a handbag or cargo pocket. Doggy bag when eating out and get- you-home container for other waste.
Mary looks so cute in the photo, does she like a bath?

  37. When my son was a baby, he threw up all over my shirt as I was holding him. I washed the shirt but as I was ironing it, I thought to myself that I could smell sick. The puke was still inside the pocket and dried to lovely sick crisps as I ironed it! Cute picture above x

  40. I dropped a basin of beans in tomato sauce on Monday as I was taking them out of the microwave. They went all over the kitchen - up the curtains and the window, all over the cupboard doors and the dishwasher. Today the farmer has gone to hire the carpet cleaner for the kitchen carpet. Pity they don't do the same kind of thing for dogs (and for cargo pants come to that)- incidentally it did look as though about twenty dogs had been sick all over the floor.

  45. Great save! I salute you for your sacrifice. Once we were driving over a rough road when one of our German shorthairs leaned over the front seat to rest his head on my shoulder. Suddenly he barfed right down onto my shoulder and entire lap. Then turned around, curled up on the seat and went back to sleep. Wish I'd been wearing handy cargo pants.

  46. A very long time ago, far away on another planet called San Francisco .. I was the owner for a short time of a Newfoundland.
Fully grown, the size of a small car. Very sweet, slow and kind of stupid.
It was dark, I was trying to get him home but he was slow and the bus stopped where I was standing. No one was on it.
The driver looked at me, looked at the dog and opened the doors.

My friend's sister borrowed a dressy handbag one evening. She drank too much and on the subway ride home threw up in the handbag. She returned it to her sister without mentioning it.
