whoops

Have you ever sent an email to the wrong person at the wrong time?
I did on Saturday night.
My best friend Nu often emails me a quick note via her phone on a regular basis
It's often an exclamation about a situation or a play or a film she has seen and it is something we have done for years.
Saturday night, well after 11pm I received this
Brooklyn 9! Kinky boots 8.5, Lady in the van 8.5!
Immediately I replied
With this
Nancy would have given Brooklyn a 10
Going to see " van " tomorrow if shitty botty allows xxx
( just in way of explanation Nancy was Nu's mother and fan of anything Irish)
Anyway, I had failed to highlight Nu's email and sent the email to the very dry Health and safety representative of the local Samaritan Branch.
A few minutes later I recieved this brief email
This correspondence is NOT for me
Have you ever sent the wrong email to the wrong person?

  1. Oh God how embarrassing.
Yes, I did once. To a family member. With very easily ruffled feathers. I groveled for weeks after that. Taught me a lesson.

  6. Yes. I composed a sweary, ranty email to a good friend, moaning about a slow-paying buyer on ebay who had given me her life story and medical history in lieu of payment....then sent it to the buyer....

  7. Yes, to a work colleague, intended for a friend. That was 12 years ago; the colleague occasionally reminds me.

  9. I have sent the occasional text to the wrong person but I once received a text at 2 in the morning that read 'Hello sexy, I'm feeling horney, fancy a fuck'
This was from one of hubby's friends!
I waited until I got up for work at 6 the following morning before replying.
'Hi Alan, thanks for the offer, but I think you sent it to the wrong person!'
He was too mortified to visit hubby again for many months.

  14. Just remembered another one. I texted 'TWO BIG CARROTS AND A PARSNIP!' to my husband who was out shopping. I wasn't using my phone so had to dial his number from memory. He didn't get it and it didn't fail, so I assume a complete stranger got it....

  15. Wanda ... the person that got that message figured it was code from some secret agents :)

  18. That made me giggle...especially since said receiver really needed to put "not" in capital letters....

  19. I thought I'd sent the text about what a cow my youngest sister had been on one occasion to my bff. Unfortunately, I sent it straight to my sister!

  20. A few of us went through a harassment case against our boss (can't go into too much detail except to say 10 of us signed (out of 700 - who hated her) and eventually she was "persuaded to resign". Not an easy feat considering she had diplomatic status. Sent an email to my mate named Steph...... "the f.....g white witch is toast thank god", and got an email back from Ste.... (chief of security) saying he thought I hadn't meant it for him!!!! Luckily I had really helped him in so many ways when he joined that he had become a friend and we just laughed it off, but NEVER AGAIN TRIGGER FINGER.

  21. I did it once... at work... to a client... about the client's rep... it wasn't nice.. You should have seen me oil my way out of that. That'll teach you to clean up your language... or not.

  22. Received a text once from an unknown person saying that the keg party would be at so and so's house. I responded that although it sounded like a good time that they should re-send to the intended person. They replied with an invitation to join them! Too bad they were a few hundred miles away ...

  23. I have a friend, let's call her Jane Smith, and I kept sending her e mails and getting no reply. Finally I got one from a Jane Smith asking why I kept sending her e mails. Seems that my Jane Smith's e mail address was janesmithsmail - so where the other Jane Smith lives I have no idea - could be Timbuctoo for all I know.

  24. No, but along the same line, I once left a message on an answering machine for which I had dialed the wrong area code ... the message went to a *very* far away place, as we found out when we got our phone bill. Fortunately the message itself was boring.

  25. Yes! It was bad. With some friends I swear like a truck driver and I sent an email intended for one of them to one of my friends who has no appreciation for 'free' expression. They just sent back an "Oops! I don't think you meant this for me!" No hard feelings though because they all know my mouth cuts checks my brain didn't write!

  26. Whilst studying social work at university I sent an email meant for my niece to the feminist studies lecturer. At the time my niece drove a Volvo and jokingly it was referred to as the vulva. Anyway this email jokingly made reference to the vulva. Holy shit , it was deeply embarrassing when I got a return email from the feminist lecturer. I explained the situation to her and she was highly relieved .......

  27. And I thought, being from the South, that I had heard all the funny expressions etc .... but this one is new and I Love It !!

  28. We have at least five Johns in our family. I often get a reply, "oops, wrong John." always good to keep it clean and kind. Now, where are my darn reading glasses?

  29. I've been on the opposite end of this, in a phone style. Our home phone number was one digit different from a local hair dresser. I started off being polite to the ladies trying to book a haircut, but became downright p***ed off at the amount of calls we were getting, Some of them were blaming me for not being the hair dresser! So I started making fake appointments for them, even having little chats about "lowlights" and other strange hair things. Revenge is sweet

  30. I don't recall doing this myself (maybe people were too polite to tell me!) but when I was in the monastery, my best friar-friend made this mistake in a huge way. We were in the initial stages of consulting the membership about a new provincial superior (think governor of a state/region). My friend sent me an email explaining why he had not included me on his list of suggestions. (He thought I was doing something more important, doing it well and there was no one else willing to take that job.) But instead of sending it to me, he sent it to a large email list that included friars, nuns and laity around the world. I got lots of consolation letters of support and he was humiliated. Oddly enough, he never sent me a copy of the original note. At any rate, it could have been far far worse! (Maybe it was worse, and that's why he never sent me a copy, now that I think about it.)

  31. I texted a "have a good weekend" intended for a lover but sent it to my dad. My dad replied as if it was the most normal thing in the world, even though I was going to see him and it made no sense whatsoever.

  32. No, never - wouldn't do THAT. I have received emails intended for someone else. I have had emails that I sent out bitching about someone, forwarded to the person I was bitching about.

  33. Ouch! Cold! It can happen to anyone. The reply could have been a bit kinder. Worst I ever did was send a private email to a fellow lyme sufferer that actually went back to the lyme list we were both on instead. I mentioned what I called herx heroes, which is what I termed people who treated too hard and fast and made themselves much sicker, then moaned about it endlessly on the list. Man did I cop it, from the aforementioned herx heroes of course. :P

  34. I'm very careful who I'm sending my emails too, given the crushing embarrassment that can follow a thoughtless click! Luckily I've never sent a really sweary, vitriolic email to anyone inappropriate.

  35. I haven't but my husband did get a late night text from a now ex-friend who asking if he wanted to come round and 'love her pussy' and no she didn't have a cat. Her boyfriend at the time had the same name as my husband and she had had a few glasses of wine - my husband handed me the phone with an exasperated 'Oh god, can you deal with her'.

  38. I sent a text to my boss with a very enthusiastic "Yes! I am a genius!!!" after I had solved a tricky problem at work. He agreed equally enthusiastic, although we really do not speak in those terms. I know he knows the message was for the man at home - I think.... At least he agreed....

  39. Accidentally sent a private note to a whole group once. Fortunately, I was at least civil and only a touch embarrassed. Could have been much worse. Guess I was just lucky that day.
