Favourite Time Of The Week

Sunday lunchtime is my favourite time
I have ten minutes before the beef is cooked.
We are having brisket, garlic mashed potatoes, sprouts and cabbage and will be sitting at the dining room table.
I have enjoyed the Sunday replay of radio 4's " Just a minute" whilst the Prof has been rearranging our jumper drawer, only popping out to drop some flowers off at Mrs H's house. I am glad I called round, being burgled for many people is a terribly traumatic experience.
It's the remembrance service at the War Memorial in the village at 2.30..it's a pity that it is not advertised more, being essentially a church and chapel thing......We shall pop down later with Winnie in tow.
I think remembrance Sunday can use a British Bulldog .....
As it turned out, the weather necessitated the service be taken inside the village hall. Winnie and I remained outside by the war memorial, she stole a few large mouthfuls of Albert's high protein breakfast and I couldn't risk her opening her bowels on the Polished memorial Hall floor!

  1. Shouldn't rearranging the jumper drawer be one of your jobs?

    2. Do you store your clothes in separate areas or all together, or is that only for jumpers?

A change in the rearrangement of jumpers within a drawer? Surely such a serious matter should be a joint decision lest it leads to the kind of marital flare-up that can end in a messy divorce? I can see how trivial things in a marriage could be left to one partner in a spirit of give and take, but surely not the arrangement of jumpers within a drawer?

Ooooh, brisket, give me half an hour, I'm just getting in the car! Wishful thinking I'm afraid, I'm up to my eyes in ironing! X

  4. That was very kind of your to pop in on Mrs H. It must have restored her faith in people to have a bit of thoughtfulness and kindness shown to her. It will be a fitting tribute to take Winnie to the remembrance service later today.

  6. I smiled at the idea of a true patriot bull dog. I hope everyone "gets" it.

  8. You do so many nice things for your neighbours, John. It's nice to see that. Unfortunately, it seems to be a rare thing these days. I always find eating at the dining room table enhances the meal. :)

  9. I need a Winnie.
I need a neighbor like you and the Prof. and the pups.
Mine grabbed my arm the other day as I walked past her house, she told me I should come over and visit, her brother ( the very old white haired biker) was asking about me.
A widows life is never really calm.

I'm a dyed in the wool atheist, but I wear my poppy proudly and make a point of attending the remembrance service at our village Church.
I can't hear 'the Last Post' without weeping, but in my mind, none of it has anything to do with religion!

    2. Well at least for atheists like me...its usually held around the war memorial

Our war memorial is inside the Church grounds, but so far I haven't turned to dust by walking in there! X

  14. Crime in Trelawnyd! I'm surprised! Glad you could take WInnie along, even if the celebration itself had to leave her behind. I'm sure she enjoyed the outing.

  22. Funny isn't it how even though I don't know Chris , When you mentioned him tidying your drawers seemed to me to be unusual. I suppose I see you as the domestic goddess. It would be weird like seeing my partner tidying my drawers .... That just sounded like Mrs Slocombe, or very carry on ish..... Another beautiful photo of dear Winnie. Truly a dog photo or one of Albert in your posts always makes me smile.

  24. We've still got our service to come on the 11th. Nearly all in French with addresses read out by the Mayor, a Veteran and a young person. Our village has '.....we will remember them' read out in English, a poppy wreath and Nation Anthem played with the French. Afterwards a glass or two of wine with everybody.

  26. On the 11th I'll light a candle and work on the poppy flag I'll be putting up in year's to come. My father and grandfather will come to mind; my father, a veteran of WW II, and his father, a veteran of WW I.

Our Sunday dinner was a mildly curried butternut squash soup, with goat cheese and freshly baked bubble bread. Only a quarter of the loaf is left, lol.

  27. Sprouts and cabbage, I'm more of a peas and carrots girl myself :-)

Every village should have a Winnie for Remembrance Sunday, it's a shame it rained on you and you were banished to the outside though.

  28. We don't share a jumper drawer. Jerry would be constantly disarranging it and I would be constantly rearranging it. Anyway, if we had jumper drawers, we wouldn't know where to find our sweaters.
