Bloody Mindedness

The Prof will hate me saying this, but he has been nominated for the Welsh RCN " Nurse of the Year award" How good is that? Now he has not worked as a clinical nurse for decades, so choosing academic research rather than bedpans has been his way of making a difference within nursing.

He's good at it too.
So today, he is on the way to Cardiff with his dinner jacket. I did have the opportunity of going too but puppies need babysitting........I hope he's prepared his best Kate Winslett  nominees face.

Anyhow before I dropped him off at the station, he mentioned that scotch egg that I found yesterday.
" They are not the healthiest things in the world" he commented
" I know.....but I've only had two in the past month" I  confessed.
The Prof gave me the Roger Moore eyebrow look.

I dropped him off at the station wishing him luck , then drove around to tescos, quick sticks, and in my pyjama bottoms and coat , I ran in and bought a sneaky two pack!
Hey ho

  1. Being nominated is an honor, it is nice to be recognized for one's work. Confession may be good for the soul, but scotch eggs are just plain good.

  2. An honour like that needs celebrating with scotch eggs.

  3. I hope chris wins the award! if so, will you have to roll out the red carpet?

  4. Does Chris ever read your blog? You are sooo busted. Congrats, Chris, for being nominated.

  5. That husband of yours is one clever bloke. Hope he wins and you can celebrate with even more scotch eggs

  6. Oh John! You always make me laugh! Well, nearly always, sometimes you make me cry. I hope that the Prof does really well and that he wins! Being nominated is wonderful though isn't it - and I really mean that!

With all due respect to The Prof and recognising that academic research is invaluable, where are the rewards for those who do the hands on stuff? Day in day out, late nights and early mornings, dealing with bad tempered and lovely people and the dying.

  8. I doubt he will win....a clinical nurse most likely will get chosen,, remember andrew if it wasnt for scientific nursing research, then nursing would not be a profession

  9. I hope to read about the big celebration next .. Congratulations to the Prof .. his hard work makes just as much a difference.

  10. Good luck to Chris! Perhaps you should enter the "Best Groomed Nurse of the Year" competition. As for scotch eggs, it is surely about time they came up with a vegan version - a plum in a hummus jacket. Then Roger Moore would have to lower his eyebrows.

  18. I used to be that way about cigarettes. I remember my sister picking up a French fry, observing, "My god, I might as well smok cigarettes," before eating it.

  19. Good for the Prof! Even being nominated is an honor. I do have the same view of those scotch eggs as he does.

  20. Oh, joy of joys! Well done, Prof! Let's hope the nomination advances even the one step further, though if it doesn't it's still a celebratory-worth achievement.
Now as for those Scotch eggs, I'm afraid I'm going to tell on you, J.G. So what's his e-mail address?

  25. Reminds me of the time I stood in the loo eating a mars bar so that the kids wouldn't see me. It was years ago so I no longer feel guilty.

  26. Congregations to the Prof.
I can just see you running wild (in your pajamas) in the fields with a scotch egg in your hand, a la Julie Andrews with the Sound of Music playing.

    cheers, parsnip

  31. After having been 'introduced' to the scotch egg by you many posts ago, I have always wanted to try one myself. We are both lovers of seafood sticks, so I knew that you could not be wrong. Two days ago (!!) I finally had a chance to try a scotch egg for the first time. I had it at a pub in Florida, so I don't know how authentic it was, but it was DELICIOUS! Oh, and congratulations to Chris (for being nominated, at this point).

  32. This is how it all starts. First the sneaky scotch egg, just one slice of Gala pie, a little sausage roll...... next thing you'll be moved on in Saiunsburys for lurking by the savouries in a suspicious manner. Just say no John!

  33. Ain't so sneaky when you blast it out on the internet. I think the Prof is right--all that extra fat has clogged your synapses. (Congrats to him for the professional recognition.)

  40. And don't tell him (or us) about the industrial 12 pack you bought at the same time.

  41. Such depravity and licentiousness...dashing into Tescos in your pyjama bottoms and overcoat as soon as your dutiful and accomplished husband's train has barely left the station! (although I must admit that Scotch eggs do sound as though they should be very yummy).

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have discovered the deconstructed scotch egg. A boiled egg for breakfast, and some bratwurst sausages for dinner. I have discovered Blackball sausages made, I assume down south in Blackball. Fresh and raw, and 90% meat. YUM.
I hope Chris ins and impresses everyone with his best Roger Moore Winning an Oscar eyebrows. You should have gone, they might serve really poshe scotch eggs for the dinner!

  45. Congratulations to Professor Chris!

I made Scotch eggs because I first heard about them here. Unbeknownst to me, an old cookbook I had had a recipe for them, and when I discovered that, I felt it was a sign that I must make them. I am not sorry.
