Singapore

My Chicken noodles was nice.............just got off a flight from hell.......baby next to me screamed solidly for a few hours and I'd just managed to zone out to " A Very Long Engagement" with Audrey Tautou when one of the stewards curled a finger at me and took me to business class for the rest of the flight
I could have kissed him......
Presently in Changi Airport waiting for my flight to Sydney...........
Hey ho

  6. For long flights business class is the way to go. It makes the rest of the holiday so much better. Glad you got a free upgrade!

  7. Screaming babies are bad enough on ground-level. I couldn't imagine being trapped next to one in mid-air.

  8. Sometime kindness comes at just the right time. I assume you are in Oz now and the party is about to begin.

  9. Sorry for the mum with the crying baby. Perhaps because you didn't complain to the steward you were rewarded with the upgrade. I wish you a safe and comfortable flight from Singapore.

As a new follower I have worked my way thru 2006 and am now reading 2007. Some of your earlier columns with few comments by readers are very interesting. I am curious as to when the large following of your blog began.

  10. It's a hella long flight, no doubt about it, even sans screaming babies. Bet a taste of business class helped!

  12. Not on topic AT ALL - but John, you must take a look at this blog that my niece just brought to my attention: http://cakewrecks.squarespace.com/home/2015/5/12/8-disgusting-medical-cakes-only-a-nurse-could-love.html
I think you will love this particular posting. I will resist the urge to say it is right up your alley. Cheers.

  13. I nursed my babies on flights and never had a screaming episode, maybe luck, maybe having very attached babies was the right choice...

  14. Thank goodness you were moved - hope you also got a lie flat bed and better food! I've flown first and business on long trips and the difference is amazing compared to the cattle car! Best airlines for me are always Asian - especially Asiana (Korean) which was fabulous in every way.

Have a wonderful time in "the lucky country' dear John.

  16. Not happy to hear about screaming babies when we are just about to do a 24 hour flight to France. I usually feel for the parents if they are doing their best but have seen many cope really well when they are well prepared and everyone around them is very grateful.

  17. Glad to hear that steward moved you to business class!

  18. John, John. John,
We've finally worked out how to leave comments. Oh happy Day!
Dolly and I(Margaret) Have been enjoying your blog for awhile now. So glad you're coming to Oz (maybe you've arrived already).
Dolly, with husband Kenny, lives on the mid north coast of NSW and if you and the Prof are travelling up this way they would very much enjoy having you visit, seriously. Tarred road all the way approx 15 kms west of Kempsey. I should add that it's friend Margaret typing this (I live a few kms away along a dirt road!).
Whatever happens John we all hope you and the Prof have a wonderful holiday in this lovely country of ours.
    Cheers
    Margaret, Dolly and Kenny

  19. Oh John, I am so happy the steward moved you.
I just don't understand screaming babies.
All of my babies/children have been on long flights and never cried or screamed for hours. There are things you can do to help your baby.
I just do not understand what parents are thinking.
Hope you are now in Oz and the flight is just a bad memory to be forgotten soon.

    cheers, parsnip
