Platypuses , platypi? Whatever!

Today in Manly we sat drinking coffee watching the surfers curl some waves
Then we hopped on a ferry to Taronga Zoo where I fell in love with the platypuses
They are delightful little buggers.......so much so that the Prof bought me a platypus all of my own
( btw did you know that baby platypuses are called puggles?
How cool is that?

  2. I used to have a cousin nicknamed Puggles.

He wasn't nearly as cute as your platypus; then again... he didn't have poison claws.

  3. Fun isn't it hopping on and off ferries! We didn't visit Taronga zoo but enjoyed the walk around the perimeter through the 'bush' and out to the peninsular there. When are you going to go surfing?

  4. Your dogs will be delighted with that oh so chewable bill.

  5. Glad you are seeing it all. The open, sunny air is doing you both a lot of good. You are looking quite carefree.

  7. Manly sounds like a butch, testosterone-fuelled place. Are there any women there or do they reside in Womanly?

  8. I imagine Winnie will be wanting some alone time with the platypus !

  9. In the past few days you have been to many places and seen a lot of things. I guess you never got jet lag.

  11. There is the old Aussie song about someone asking " we'll have you ever tried to platypuse" which with an Aussie accent sounds like " plait ur puss" .....

  12. Well in the song it's pronounced that way .

  18. If you move to Australia just think of the type of animal farm you could have! Platypus, dingo, koala, kangaroo etc; I think Chris secretly bought the platypus for Winnie so that he can have his slippers back!

  19. I have heard about puggles, but I can't remember where. I was surprised to learn that platypi aren't endangered. I always thought they were!

Dear sweet John, only this morning I thought to myself "it can only be a matter of time before he latches onto something animal and/or furry". And what do you know ... In absence of your own zoo you visit one.

You look great. Am so very happy for you (and the Prof) having a grand time.

    Affectionately,
    Ursula

Now I'm jealous! I have loved Platypuses/Platypi for as long as I can remember! You lucky bugger seeing them up close, I have actually turned green with envy!
By the way......what do you call a cat who's just scoffed a whole duck in one go?
    A duck filled fatty puss!!!

  24. They are super cute. And weird. When the first ones were stuffed and sent back to the UK, the scientists of the day assumed they were a practival joke.

  25. Read bitchontheblog's comment - ' something animal and furry' - thought that was the Prof!

Puggles? I am cross that I have never heard of that. Checking... common usage but not official. Imagine what the first white arrivals thought when they first saw a platypus.

  27. Will you carry it on the return trip or pack it in your luggage? Have you named it?
