James Horner

It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of the film composer James Horner today. He was one of the giants within the film music industry and his scores have graced many a movie.
My favourite piece of his music comes from the forgettable movie Bicentennial Man and is called
" the gift of mortality"....it was used to great effect as a musical backdrop to this clip of the silent movie " Wings" from the 1920s
Watch the clip and listen to Horner's haunting music
And get a hankie ready....

  1. The tragic loss of a great composer. "Titanic", :Braveheart", "Field of Dreams". He and his music will be fondly remembered.

  2. I think you already showed us this clip a year or two ago, didn't you? Strange that there was a plane crash involved. Apparently Horner's started a small forest fire.

  3. My emotions can't deal with this. My throat has been aching with held back tears for you and Meg in the previous post. I did think of you this morning when 'my heart will go on' was brought to my mind. Too sad today. x

  6. I've seen the still picture from that clip on your sidewall so many times yet never knew where it was from. Haunting in sound and subject yet beautiful in celebration of human connections.
Don't know if it was quirk of You Tube or you'd queued up the next clip to play but my heart was caught short when I saw Robin Williams' lovely face. The Bicentennial Man clip about what it means to be human is again apropos.
    Hold fast, John. Trying days...

  7. Such a loss, but as was said above, that music will live on for centuries. He ranks right up there with John Williams for creating such iconic theme music for so many movies. Sad to think of the music that will never be played...

Side note, that clip was amazing, is that a gay themed silent movie? Or are they very close friends? I'm going to have to look for that on youtube. Thank you for sharing.
