Bush Envy

I was just leaving the field gate with a bowl of eggs when a woman I know vaguely who was walking her dog chirped up and said " Haven't you got a lovely bush!"
She wasn't referring to my " down below garden area" , thank the lord, but my bargain from woolies
Ceanosus in our front garden

  2. A friend of a friend has a ceanothus in her front garden, too. Driving past her house once, our friend said to me, "That's Janice's bush!" Genteel ladies that we are, we looked at each other and burst into fits of the giggles. And now I can't help but giggle every time I drive past Janice's bush, which is quite often! One day I'll grow up...

  3. We bought one about 3 years ago, but it didn't grow well. I'm not even sure what happened to it. Yours is a beauty.

  4. Best post title ever ! You make me giggle.
One of my favorite colors in a garden against all the colors of green.
And I love your phone !

Hope Meg is feeling better today.
    cheers, parsnip

  6. I love that purply blue colour. Perhaps the VKW (Vaguely Known Woman) should get Alan Titchmarsh in to check out her own less impressive bush.

  8. It's all picture perfect. Here's my real question: did St. Patrick stop on his way back to the continent to drive all insects from Wales? You can throw your windows wide, as the novels say, and lean out! No flies? No mosquitoes?

  13. I wanted a blue bush so I planted one of those and it just shrivelled up and died. Replaced it with a hydrangea bush which is thriving but very pink.

  15. I used to have a Ceanothus John but the frost got it. Some varieties are especially prone to frost - although I guess in Wales it is a little warmer than it is here on North Yorkshire.

  16. Could've been worse if she'd shouted 'Oi, your bush needs trimmed'!I think your particular Ceanothus is called 'Adriatic Blue'. x

  17. Reminds me of a button I saw a few years ago during one of the American elections. In big letters it said "Lesbians for Bush!" and then underneath in smaller letters it said "This is not a political button."

  18. I like the lady next door's bush but she won't let me have a bit of it. She doesn't like me much, partly because I myself have a big overgrown bush that annoys her when she sees it in her line of view out of her window. She wants me to trim it but I am just letting it grow.

    1. As she lives on her own there is no man to influence her gardening tastes, which is why I told her she had a nice lady garden. She did not seem to appreciate my observation.

  22. We have a large old one that has just about finished blooming. I find that if you don't give them a good pruning every once in a while they have a tendency to start dying off a bit. It is not a shrub that looks good as a topiary or anything that harsh just knock the tips back a few inches at the most and that will force new growth.

Your bush really could do with a trim. And I expect it does too.
